R-Dome on R-171

Okay. Followed the instructions to the hilt, but the instructions don't apply to the skirt.

Instructions say to install snaps to mount the skirt but the skirt comes with a bulb seal same as the main awning. And of course, no snaps which the instructions day are included. The skirt is a single piece.

1: how to get the skirt around the stairs? Cut?

2: how to get the skirt around the tire well? The seal grove is split but the skirt isn't? Again, cut?

Another example of "it's sold now you figure it out!

We all cut the skirt into 2 pieces and the cut the piece at the stairs to fit around the stair. Will usually put some sort of seam along the cuts to protect them from being damaged anymore.

Honestly though most of us rarely use the skirting. We put ours up twice in 5 years.

That's what I did. Only using it to keep our fence trained dogs in the dome.

You had to cut it? Seriously?!
That's the solution?

Is that the case with every rpod or this a problem unique to the 171?

Every pod if you want it to fit with the steps.

So... I guess they didn't plan on having steps.

Lol...pretty much. From everything I have read very few people use that piece as you will still get bugs in.

There are more than enough other gaps in the R-Dome to let bugs in, that screen is just something extra to carry and put up.

The original R-Pods before the fender light recall you could run the skirt all the way past and over the axle, but in order to add the fender light wires that became the first issue.

The step has always been tricky, many would leave their step pushed in and use a stool or other step to enter their pod.

Again, just talking about the screen that goes around the bottom of the Pod. Most people don't use it. We have a couple fence trained dogs that won't go through it so it's pretty much a large kennel for them.

Having to adjust a product right out the gate still seems wrong....I'll likely just use a step stool if I use the bottom piece.

Semi-related question... Trying to locate an R-Dome for our 171. I've heard of others locating them at a bargain price. FR wants almost $600 for theirs, shipped. Is there a better source?

I don't know a thing about Rpod skirts, but I found this. Maybe it helps?

Try dometic.com. The domes are made by them and I know they offer other types of screen rooms. Can't see for myself right now since I'm on the road without Wi-Fi access and my phone doesn't have JavaScript.

RVSkirts.com. Quite the setup. Called them today. Gonna be a bit expensive for us am afraid, especially without being able to have them install (too far away).
