RPod 179 Dome Fit Properly?

We just installed our new dome on our new RPod 179. There is about a foot of the dome material extending past each end of the channel on the top which leaves a "hole" at each end before you put on the suction cups. Also can't figure out how the skirt is supposed to fit behind the wheel and over the step. The instructions talk about drilling holes and using strap fasteners. Not sure we know what that means. Can anyone enlighten us on those two items?

We have a channel at the bottom if our Rpod for the skirt. I cut the skirt in two and feed from both ends towards the wheel. Once I had the one in place over the step I slit it at the brackets so I could tuck it behind the step.
