What are you towing your R-Pod with

Just taking a survey on TV for the R-Pod. What do you have and how does it work for you?

I've had my R-Pod since last October. I tow it with a FJ Cruiser. I've added airbags, and will be adding a trans cooler to make it happier. I use a Prodigy RF brake controller.

It tows easily, from 2000ft to 9000ft over 20mi and it was fine.

200mi into bad weather and back and it was fine.

Started out with a Toyota RAV-4 Sport V-6, but a little under powered for Colorado Plains and Mountains.
Moved to a 2013 Ram 1500 5.7L Hemi 6 spd/auto 4X4 CrewCab. Plenty of power, good in mountains, 11-13/mpg per tank of gas @55-60/mph.
Factory tow package & 3.92 rear axle ratio. Can haul the kids, cargo, plenty of room. 19-21/mpg Hwy. not towing

We hope to get a 178 and will be towing with a 2014 BMW X6 xDrive 35i ( Max tow is 6,000lbs w/ tongue of 600lbs) so we should be just fine.

there is a Rpod owners forum. there is also a Rpod nation forum but that appears to be owned by a RV dealership.

To answer the original question: We started out with a Chevy Colorado, rated at 5,500 lbs. It did okay on short drives, but we were not comfortable with it for the longer trips we like to take. Traded in the Colorado for a Silverado two years ago and consider it one of the better decisions we've made.

We use a 2012 Ford Flex with 6 cylinder Eco Boost. Recently went from Louisiana to South Dakota and back. Easy tow but gas mileage not so hot. 10-11.5 mpg at 65-70 mph.

i hope you realize that the trailer tires are only rated to a max of 65mph. hate to see a blowout on a single axle trailer.
and you'll get better gas mileage by staying in the 60-62mph range.

Out of curiosity, what tires on it? Make/model and type (ST vs. LT)?

i'm not aware of any lite travel trailer with LT tires, unless an owner added them or they are an option.
ST tires are the standard.

that version is only available out West, so it's not typical of the average R-pod equipment/tires.

Tow vehicle

Pulling with a 2005 Jeep Liberty with the 2.8L 4 cyl diesel with towing package. We just got the Rpod, and only made one trip. Made it over a 5000 foot pass. The engine temp starts to go up if we use the overdrive even on the flat. Who knows what next year will bring. I just purchased a "Scan Gauge II" that plugs into the diagnostic plug, and lets me look at the engine performance in detail while driving. I have it set now on MPG, digital engine temp. and percent of available horsepower. "In God we trust, all others bring data."

2014 Jeep Wrangler Rubicon Unlimited. 3.73 rear end, auto transmission. Added brake controller, tows our 2013 R-pod 176 with no problems, 12.6- 13.6 mpg towing, 16-19.2 without. Of course that is in fairly flat country
