Sandstorm - Memorial Day Camping

Spent the Memorial Day Weekend camping north of Boise near a hot springs. It was a brand new Forest Service campground. My first real attempt at backing in. Got it centered in about five minutes. No sweat.

Here is a picture of the camp spot:



The weather could have been better. At least we learned that the furnace is efficient at keeping the camper warm overnight. Trials were a little muddy for ATVing, but a dip in the hot springs was great after getting chilly on a ride.

SILVER CREEK CAMPGROUND (ID), BOISE NF - FS, ID

Silver Creek Campground is located in beautiful Peace Valley at an elevation of 4,490 feet. A mixed-growth lodgepole pine forest provides partial shade throughout the campground and wildlife is plentiful. Silver Creek runs adjacent to the campground, offering rainbow and bull trout fishing. Peace Creek and Bull Creek Trails provide great hiking, mountain biking, horseback and OHV riding opportunities; both are just a short distance away. Silver Creek Plunge Resort is located adjacent to the campground and features a hot springs pool, convenience store, snack bar, volleyball court, basketball court, playground, and horseshoe pits..

This campground was reconstructed in 2010 and provides potable water and vault toilets, but no electricity. Roads and parking spurs within the campground are paved. All individual sites have a tent pad, picnic table, fire ring, and cooking table. Two reservable group sites are available, both with fire rings, covered tables, and ample parking. One group site can accommodate up to 80 people, the other up to 100 people.

From Boise, travel north on Highway 55 to Banks, then turn east on the Banks-Lowman Road. Go east approximately 8 miles toward Garden Valley, then turn north on the Middle Fork Road (#698). Pass through Crouch and continue north on the Middle Fork Road approximately 16 miles to Silver Creek Road (#671). Turn northeast on Silver Creek Road and continue 8 miles to Silver Creek Campground.
