I agree.

Most 2500's have 373 and up gearing.
Most 1500's have 350 and down gearing.

320's are pretty common in a 1500
410's are pretty common in a 2500

I had a 5.3 chevy 1/2 ton with 3:43 rear and got 9 through the mountains. Got a 3/4 ton gas 6.0 with 3.73 rear and only get 7.5-8 on same trip. However, it is a much nicer pulling truck.

Not towing, the half ton got 13-14 in town, 3/4 gets 11.

I have towed a 26RL Grey Wolf with a '09 1500 Hemi and a '12 2500 CDT.
Mileage on the Hemi over the same terrain and distance was - 8.5-9 mpg and with the CDT it was 13,5-14 mpg. As I mentioned same trailer, same terrain and distance.

The 2500 handles it SO MUCH BETTER it was nite and day. Easier parking, turning, stopping, everything. The ride was also much better.

Both trucks had 3.73 rear end and same transmission.

OP is talking about going from 1/2 to 3/4 with same engine....so to compare going from a 1/2 ton gas to a 3/4 ton diesel is not at all what he is looking for...those are 2 totally different animals....like some have mentioned Chillbilly and like I mentioned in one of my posts going from 1/2 gas to 3/4 gas you will likely drop...but we are talking 1 to 2 miles per gallon...is that enough to impact your decision?

John I have 09 hemi cc. Back then they had rearends of 3:21 3:55 and 392 on 4 wheel drive
You must have added the 3; 73
My 09 I pull 7200 with mine 3:21 rr. In Texas . 8-9 miles per gallon

2014 F250 3/4ton diesel gets 11.8 pulling 34ftTT thru the mountains. Our 2005 1/2 ton suburban got 9 sometimes 7 pulling the 23ft TT we had.

Supercharged 5.7 w stock 4.30 rear gears premium fuel. I get 10 - 11 mpg all day towing our RV @ 55 - 60 mph Any more than that and the fuel milage will go down as the speed goes up. The front of the RV is the milage hog at 13' tall and 8' wide there is allot of resistance there. A pretty good head wind will also drop the milage as a good tail wind will help it, same with the mountains. Without pulling the RV I can get a solid 19 mpg @ 65 mph.

We also forget at times that the harder the engine works the "HOTTER" it gets, the hotter it gets, the more things can go wrong (overheating).
