12 volt appliances (merged from 3 threads)

Installing an outlet like that should not be an issue. Allot of automotive stores and Walmart have 12V outlets that you can install. The one I installed has two USB outlets so i don't have to remember the adapters to charge my devices. I am not sure why you would need a 12V shaver. A small inverter would be able to charge a shaver, my shaver will go almost 2 weeks without recharging.

The 12v receptacle isn't hard to install. You just need to be sure you have adequate, fused 12v power to tap into where you are installing or the ability to run the wiring necessary.

I use a battery operated shaver, just charge it up when hooked up and shaver last for right many days

That's what I was thinking, since any battery powered shaver is actually DC voltage. However, I guess if you were without 120 volt power for a long time, then you might not be able to recharge the battery(ies) the normal way....by using the 120 volt AC/DC charger..... but still should be able to use a small plug-in inverter to do the job.

I can sometimes go for 3 weeks without charging my shaver. That's why I brought it for dry camping. I will crank up one of my Honda's and the shaver charges in a jiffy, I can't go for three weeks without cranking up a Honda

Most laptop computers have a 12 volt DC "Cigar Lighter" adapter available as an accessory. There are several companies that make them.

What model are you looking for?

The problem with that is it is really a 120 volt computer system that you have to invert to 12 volts so it drains the house battery 10 times as fast as a 12 volt computer would.

So, Jerry. That had me scratching my balding head.
I got out my HP Pavilion DV7 laptop and took a look.

The battery is an 11.1 volt 100 Watt Hour Extended Run Li-ion battery (Model number HSTNN-LB2W) and it runs the laptop just fine not plugged in.

The Transformer that charges it (and runs the computer) outputs 18.5 volts DC at 6.5 amps (120 Watts) to charge that battery AND run the computer at the same time. The AC load at 100-240 volts (rms) is 2 amps or 240 watts at 120 volts to produce that stable DC voltage output.

Thus a 12 volt cigar plug hooked to a source of DC (Converter or Battery) capable of delivering 120 Watts (10 amps) connected to a plug of the correct polarity should (will) run my Laptop just fine with no inverter or Transformer loss.

In fact here is a source for the correct car charger for my laptop. It boosts the 12 volts to 18.5 volts and only uses a measly 3.5 amps or 65 Watts for 21 bucks. Now it will take forever to charge my Li-ion 400 Watt Hour battery, but it will in no way destroy my camper's house battery at 3.5 amps.

There is nothing in ANY computer (laptop or desktop) that uses 120 volts except the main power supply. All components use either 5 volts, inverted 12 volts (-12 VDC), 12 volts DC or some combination (like hard drives and CD-ROMs that use +5 and +12 VDC - 5 volts for the control board and 12 volts for the motor drive).

Some newer power supplies ad 3.3 volts DC for the newer low power processors:

Thanks Herk, I did some more research and also called Dell and they do not have a computer that runs directly on 12V with cigar type plug. I have learned you simply need a 12V charger to keep your laptop battery charged. I looked at the reviews and I would keep looking.
That one is stinky.

Also one of the answers said it only puts out 9 volts.
That is most likely incorrect but no one corrected him.
9 Volts would not work on my laptop.

One of the very first laptops we used at work had a cigar lighter cord to keep it charged up. I was at a pay phone taking orders sitting in my car and the thing must have shorted out and was on fire as I threw it out the window. I have never used another one. I'm sure they are perfectly fine now but you might want to watch out.

Dell makes one too. Mine even has the pretty blue led ring on the tip to show it has power. Never tried boondocking with my 6420 or m6800 to see how long the car batt lasts. Most of time it's for traveling so kids can use it.

I don't think you are going to find an "OVEN". You will find some "re-heaters" that get up to 300F degrees. A 12V heating device that would reliably get to COOKING/BAKING temps would really require some heavy internal switches and circuitry. (The internal elements would require 10 times the current (amperage) handling that a 110 volt unit would. Very inefficient and potentially dangerous. You may find something, but make SURE you get some first hand reviews on it...
