2014 or 2015 ?????

We are supposed to take possession of our new 2015 FR3 tomorrow and our insurance agent advised me the Vin for the RV comes back to a 2014. The dealer said it's a 2014 chassis with a 2015 body.
Can this be correct or is it possible somethings wrong???
Any advice out there!

Nope.. nothing wrong there. It's a very common occurrence... but I would use it as a negotiating point for a few more dollars off using 2014 price points. It can take awhile to complete a build. After all.. most rigs are just an assembly of various pre manufactured parts. Nothing 'under the table' going on there.

Your Chassis is the backbone though and for the sake of the DMV registration they will be going off the 2014 vin.

Last April I traded my Georgetown class A in for a destination trailer. The vin indicated that it was a 2004 but the documentation stated 2005. The dealer contacted Forest river who assured him it was in fact a 2005. I got the 2005 list price not the 2004, I thought that this was corrected by the motor vehicles people and the chassis determined the year not the frame.

I have noticed this also. I think it would be good to negotiate because it could make a difference when you sell or trade.

One thing you want to make sure is that the "in service date" of the chassis is the day you pick it up, this will be the start date for your chassis warranty.Your dealer should be taking care of this.

Common. Me and a friend ordered our (identical) campers at the same time. He got his 3 weeks before me and his is a 2012. Mine is a 2013 according to the VIN.

There is not a whit of difference between the two.

Thanks, for all the good advice, I didn't think of the warranty issue either.
Thanks again.

2014 or 2015

I purchased a 2014 Sanibel in November of 2013 but it was classified as a 2014 model. I was told by the Dealer that the RVs are like Cars they change tooling in September or October each year for the next year production. By my date tag my Sanibel was built in October of 2013. It looks the same as 2015 Models with only minor changes.

All in all, I like what I purchased and happy I bought a Forest River product!

Maceman: Your insurance company should insure it as a 2015, you will have to prove it to them with your bill of sale, make sure they do because if you have a accident in the first year they will only pay out on it as a 2014 and you will lose a lot of money.

A RV Manufacturer buys trailer components at B to B pricing and almost always in a large quantity. The same for motorized motorhomes (Class A, B, and C). It is not all uncommon to have a 2015 motorhome riding on a 2014 chassis. Ditto trailers. Many of the components (refrigerator, furnace, water heater, etc.) will have manufacturer dates older than the motorhome or trailer.

The situation can get interesting when emission laws change. Your 2006 chassis may be under a 2007 motorhome, but the emission laws of 2006 apply. Note: there was a change in emission laws for diesel engines between 2006 and 2007, and the issue was discussed frequently at that time.

Thanks. Interesting, that makes me feel much better about our purchase. We are scheduled to do our tech inspection today at 3pm. Very excited!

Used to work at automobile plant. Quite common to use prior year components on current model. However, when I picked up my Flagstaff in August of 2011 the VIN came back as a 2012. Go figure, thought I was buying a automobile!

Thanks again for all the feedback.
Just follow up info:
After finalizing all the paperwork, Vin -ford chasis- actually has an open date and body Vin -forest river- has a build date 2015, both titles (one chasis and one body) go to state DMV, who will title it as a 2015.

I thought all of this sounded familiar, with a hint of deja vu. We had discussed an identical situation back in 2011, and bclemens (Forest River rep) stated the same as you have above. Sorry, I didn't see your thread earlier.

Here is a link and bclemens post from it.

There is also a "Coach VIN" that starts with 4X4.... The 10th digit of that one will indicate the model year...which will show it as a 2007.
