Friends of ours who we sometimes camp with are looking at upsizing to a fifth wheel along the lines that's mentioned in this thread but contrary to what the salesman has said they'll have to upgrade from their 1/2 ton. A 2500HD with a 6.0 gas engine will probably work quite well.

My 2015 GMC 2500 @ 75mph turns about 2080 with 4:10 flat and level according to my scangauge.
The 4:10 is all you can get in the GM 2500 gassers since either 14 or 15, and the 3:73 is all thats available in the diesels.

We are pulling a rockwood 2720ws with a 2003 2500hd with 6.0. Pulls great but i keep it below 65 mph otherwise I can literally watch the gas guage drop getting about 4 mpg. Below 65 getting roughly 7 to 8 mpg. We will be upgrading in next year or two to a diesel as the truck is so old and will be taking longer trips. For now everything is great.
