50 amp to 30 amp reducer cord

How often does a 50 amp to 30 amp reducer cord actually get used ?? I thought about getting one .. but are those really needed that often ??

In three years I have used mine twice. In both instances I would have been "boned" if I did not have it. I was at campgrounds that had two 30 amp campers share a single pedestal when in "overflow" conditions.

Also infrequent use of my 25 foot extension cord; however when you need it; there is no substitute.

I have also used my 30 amp cord to 20 amp outlet adapter several times (again while in overflow at popular campgrounds).

I bought the camper in May this year, I've used the 50/30 adapter twice.
For $15.00, it opens up some options when a camp ground is pretty well booked up.

18 campgounds this year and did not use it once. I did use my 25ft extension several times though. Doesn't mean I would leave my 50->30 adaptor at home. As stated above having more options in campgrounds is always a good thing.

I carry my 50/30 amp adapter and 30 amp extension cord with me, but I've only used them at home. I will keep them loaded in the trailer, just in case.

Like others I have used it 3 or 4 times but would not have had power if I didn't have it with me those times when the pedestal either just had 50amp or the 30amp connection was broken and wouldn't keep the plug tight.

I forget exactly how much I paid for mine; but it was pretty cheap at an American Walmart. Probably in the $10 range. It's in the storage area of my trailer and may not get used very often. But I also look at it like a tool- I own many tools that I cannot always justify the cost of. However the one or two times they are needed makes it worthwhile.

Speaking of adapters.....is it possible to get a 30->15 amp reducer that attaches directly onto the trailer like the female end (with screw on ring) that came with the trailer?

that would be a NO - you would have to put the cord into the camper and change it at the other end that plugs into the pole.

To answer the OP's Question - Bought my camper in March 2011
I have used my 50 to 30 adapter once - saved me because the 30 amp breaker kept popping on the pole so I hooked into the 50 amp side and had no issue's with the breaker popping.
I had never had a problem like that so am thinking the 30 amp breaker on the pole was weak.
Well worth a little extra to buy the adapter's now so if you run into an issue you can remedy it faster then trying to go to the store and finding it or not finding it when you really needed it

Been out about 30 times this year and have yet to run into a circumstance when I required 50-30 amp adapter, however, the next time I go I may need one, so it's now on my list. $$$$$$ and it keeps adding up.
