We did the memorial last month. For anyone near NYC, it's well worth the visit. The museum wasn't finished, but the water features, plaques, Survivor Tree, and somberness of the setting, and the stilled crowd, left a lasting impression. God bless the innocents, and God bless the USA! No . . . we will never forget!

I'll never forget either. Every year I still watch the tv show about that day that changed history. And every Sept 11th I wear an American flag T- shirt. God bless the U.S.A.!

I was on duty at the firehouse that day and we were watching the news as events were happening. As the towers were burning we knew FDNY had a mass amount of personnel committed to high rise operations. I remember after seeing the 2nd tower collapse I commented to the crew that we just lost a lot of brothers and sisters. Later we found out it was 343 murdered but that does not count the ones who have died years later from being exposed to contaminants during the rescue operations. We have an American flag with the names of the 343 on it hanging at the firehouse but even if we didn't have the flag, we will never forget.

Like others here, I never forget where I was ( I was on duty at my FAA office and because our office holds the American Airlines operating certificate, we are very close to their operation.)
On a related note, Everytime I performed an En Route Inspection ( riding on the flight deck jump seat monitoring the performance of the Flight Crew and airplane) on an American Airlines Boeing 757 and/ or 767 after 9-11, I would sit in that jump seat and try to imagine the chaos that took place when the hijackers broke into the flight deck - it was something I could not ever fully envision.

Did you actually go down to NYC to assist afterwards?
There was something on TV the other day showing NYC firemen climbing up the full length of stairs wearing full packs like their fallen brothers did - awesome
I commend you Sir for all you do.

I remember watching the news and seeing those Arab men and women jumping up and down celebrating and cheering for death of all of those innocent lives. I think there will be a special place in hell for them.

Right there with ya. My sons school actually had the nerve to try and ignore it today, but thanks to him and his friends they made it happen. I couldn't be prouder.
I remember. It was, and still is, the first and only time in now 4 generations that we went out and got a TV from our house and turned it on at work. My adopted son (the one referenced above) was 4 yrs old and going to move in with us later on that day; but all the government buildings shut down and we, understandably, had to wait.
I feel for all the families that have to go on living with a large empty hole in their lives just because some people half a world away don't like the fact that we, for generations, have busted ass to make this corner of the world ours and run it, safely, the way we like.
As a side note: I think for once the powers that be finally got a memorial right. A fountain with a flowing river of water that never seems to fill the hole. I personally feel that's exactly what every caring person feels about this senseless violence and what it caused.

Each year on 911, I get a sickening feeling deep in my gut. A combination of anger, disgust and outright disbelief. I can't bring myself to watch television shows or radio programs with footage and audio. God bless the USA. We're gonna need it.

Was working in Manhattan that day so I certainly won't forget. My wife and I watched the sunset one night at the top of one of the towers in 1995. Something else I won't forget.

I was working graveyards that day, and my wife woke me to tell me what was happening. It was surreal that night at work.
This year a group of ten riders from PPD rode in the Tour De Force (bike ride from the Freedom Tower to The Boston Marathon finish line) to honor the victims of 9/11 and fallen officers. Yesterday's finish was awesome. Heading home today. We will never forget.

I worked at the Pentagon. We didn't suffer nearly the devastation of the towers, and the after effects weren't nearly as severe. Though I did lose some friends.
I'm going to say something here that may upset some folks, but I believe I have earned the privelege of saying it.
There is a hierarchy to the events of that day. First the Towers, then the Pentagon, then the crash of Flight 93. I know this is a result of the shear numbers of each event. But it just really bugs me that on a day full of heroes, the people of Flight 93 seem to come in "third place".
I know I'm not saying it well, but I hope that everybody is able to understand what I'm trying to say.
To me, on a day of heroes, the greatest, bravest, heroes of them all were the passengers of Flight 93.
To paraphrase John:
No greater love has a man, but that he give his life for another.

I was working in a hospital that is 12 stories high, near other tall bldgs. We saved 100s of beds for the wounded. Horrible, we never needed them. On the flip side. I met my DH on 9/11...not that 9/11, but a different 9/11. We still barely mention that, as it is not a day to celebrate.
