Are you talking about Ozium?

I used that for years at my gym and at home. It works.

Dehumidifier

In cold weather my basement is fine but in summer it gets a bit stinky.
I run one of the dehumidifiers in the basement. It sits over a drain, without the catch bucket, so I never have to touch it.

I have the humidistat set in the middle of the range, so it rarely runs in the winter.

Yes I have a big one in the basement, it stopped any mildew growth, but not the musty smell

Same here but I unplug it in cooler weather and move it out of the way.

They certainly will. Best part is that the Ozone kills the "organisms" that cause the musty smell.

If you have a musty basement you more likely than not have dampness. Use an Ozone Generator to kill the smell and the mold/mildew that causes it then use a Dehumidifier that's large enough to keep the dampness from causing more smell. Keeping the air drier and occasional Ozone treatments should make your basement smell a lot better. I know what a dank basement can smell like. Grew up on a farm and the basement of the house was added on after the house was originally built. In the rainy season we actually had water running across the floor in some places of the basement.

Naturally, if you have any ground water leakage into the basement it would be a good idea to fix that too.

Be sure to read the instructions.

If the house is going to be empty for a couple days give it a good dose to begin with.
