advantages of hibernation

One of the advantages of hibernation is you have time to plan for 2016 trips. I’ll get into questions about our 1st long distant road trip to Charleston SC this May in another Thread. Meanwhile in reading Threads from FRF members about planning their long distant trips many include overnight rest stops at places such as Walmart, Cracker Barrel, truck stops, etc. As FRF members mentioned many places will not allow you to put down stabilizers and extend slides for an overnight. I understand with the slides retracted they are not suitable for use (sleeping)...totally get it. Fortunately in our Windjammer we have full access to the kitchen and bathroom areas…..but nowhere to rest our heads at night (detail for next TT). So, for those of you who have a bed/living room slides the question of the day is: how do you handle an overnight during a long road trip?
Thanks in advance for your tips and advice.
Happy Trails

We did park near a curb in their rear parking lot in a Cracker Barrel, and put out that side hybrid bed. We made sure we ate with them and asked if we could park.

Twice overnight in a rest area, just hung the big slide over the edge of the parking lot, once just backed into a corner.

Just once we rolled into Flagstaff, AZ. and found a spot in a small RV park where we got the last spot.

Pahranagat National Wildlife Refuge I just parked with the big slide next to a tree.

I prefer having power and putting slides out so I look for campgrounds near the area I want to stop when I take a break earlier in the day. I call the campground for availability. I then pull in, plug in power only and stay hooked up. Easy out in the morning

We don't need to open the BR slide and have access to the bath. The fridge is blocked but no big deal as we eat out often on the road and carry a cooler with drinks, snacks, and sandwiches.

We have found that unless we can find a really level spot it doesn't work for us. Our bed is cross ways in the 5er and hard sleeping on bed leaning to one side. Our last 5er had the bed running length wise and it worked great if not level.

We have a app on cell phones and tablet called "Camp and RV" by ALLSTAYS that show RV Parks along the route and normally stay at cheap camp ground. There are several apps that show free over night parking and Walmart App that shows which Walmarts allow over night stays.
