So, we’re camping in 105 degree heat index, and the unit is doing everything possible but still 85 degrees in the camper, this is going to happen every year, I’m just curious, should I look at adding another rooftop unit? Anyone else have a solution to this Problem?

AC is not affected by heat 'index' only humans feel 'index'/AC can only lower temps by 15-20 degrees

Parking in the shade is the very best thing you can do.

After that, add Reflectix to all windows that you can tolerate.

Use fans to move cool air around.

And finally, consider a 2nd A/C. In my 43' toy hauler, we have 3!

If you have a 50amp service then yes add another AC unit. Cover all Windows and skylights with double bubble reflective foil insulation will help lower temp in camper as well.

You didn't mention which rig you have. Reflex all the windows including the skylight if you have one. Make sure the AC is started prior to the interior reaching 80*. Clean the outdoor coil (up on the roof) make sure your filters are clean. Measure the Delta T between the cold air return and the output of the AC. 20* difference is about the best you will get.

check your unit or build sheet to see if you have a 13.5 or 15 a/c unit. my rear is 15 and my front is 13.5. when im on a 30 am site that is sunny I have a hard time keeping up in the middle of day but it catches up at dark. 43 foot 5 slide 5th wheel

Our unit is a 15,000 btu 34’ Rockwood ultra light. I think it’s already prepped for a 2nd unit. Almost everywhere we camp is 50 amp so I’m thinking another 15,000 btu unit will help considerably. Thoughts?

is your unit 50 amp? if so and prepped would help keep the cost of upgrade down.

We have three AC units, 15000 and two 13500 for a 42 foot fiver. A good running AC will lower 21 degrees at best.

Before adding another AC unit, I would try looking for air leaks, put Reflectix on the windows, and try adding a couple of fans to get the air moving into the cooling zones.

We have a 33’ rockwood. We added a second ac to bedroom. What a difference! On really hot days we close the vents in bedroom, set ac to a lower setting and let it force more ac into the living room. The 2 15k ac units keep up nicely. We added those mcd shades and that cuts out a LOT of heat. Although i think i will add that reflex stuff in the sun roof in living room and bathroom. So far... 93 outside... 73 inside. Last year with one ac... id be lucky to see 83 inside. Second ac was 100% worth it!

We have a 38' travel trailer with one 15k AC. We keep a fan going inside at all times. The fan running makes a world of difference by keeping the air moving. We had a really hot summer a few years back and we put auto style sunshades in the bigger windows and it helped a lot.
