I can relate to OC - we retire in 2-ish years and we keep eyeing the Cedar Creek but moving up to that LeadSled will require a 1T Dually - a BIG change from our Current EcoBeast!

Moving up

Talking about moving up to another trailer, a comment was made about having to also move up to a 1-ton tow vehicle. Until recently, I wasn't aware that in my province of Manitoba Canada, when you move above a ¾ ton truck it must be safety checked each year because it's considered a commercial vehicle. Something to check out in your jurisdiction.

Thanks for the heads up - fortunately not a issue in the great state of AL

I have heard that some states (NY..CA I think?) not only require that but a Commercial Drivers License as well! (Plus, I think they tax the truck/5er as a commercial vehicle to boot )

While registration fees in general are high in CA there is a surcharge because of the weight. However, it is nowhere near as expensive as a commercial rig. Also, no special license required in California for a one ton.

It's funny... I could hook my dually to an 80 foot camper and drive it anywhere no problems... but as soon as I hook it to my commercial trailer I need my DOT placards in place, and my DOT physical card on my person, and my DOT logbook properly filled out... it's ridiculous.

We're kinda acustom to the 'one button' experience.....rather nice in fact. Although, in our case there are actually five buttons we have to deal with, one for the levelers and one for each slide. It can be exhausting at times and actually has taken almost 10 minutes to set up on occasion by the time we get plugged in and hooked up. You just have to keep your button fingers in shape. ...oh and always stretch real good first....

ACK! Do not rely on this site! They do not update frequently by any means, and there is plenty of incorrect information. Some of the discrepancies are innocuous, like max trailer width limited to 96" and I'm pretty sure every state has gone to 102". However, the indications of riding in trailers definitely doesn't fly in several I spot checked.

What are your favorite upgrades? And what did you think you had to have but really didn't? I'm starting to think about things we can add. My biggest disappointment is that our fridge doesn't run on propane and that the kitchen table doesn't lower to accommodate an emergency visitor. I didn't realize that any tt fridge wouldn't run on propane. I don't think we will ever go to a larger tt but wondering why the 5th wheels are so popular. Easier to manuever?

Our best upgrade was instalation of CheapHeat. It really saves on use of propane.

Thanks billb! After I posted the CheapHeat question I looked it up and realized that I "had" already heard of it and seen the video. Brain still froze but thawing!

Easier to maneuver, better floor plans (IMHO) more room, more "residential"

BTW, if your fridge does not run on propane...just electric? I can't imagine that - let us know the make/model of your TT - first I ever hear about a TT that was not dual (Electric/Propane)
