The rule of thumb is to replace when there is only 25% left but sooner is better than later.

For the little that they cost....don't be cheap about it and replace it sooner rather than later. The life of it is directly related to the quality/properties of the water where you camp.

Anode tip ...

Do what we do and save some installation effort and worry ... when the anode gets to be about 25% or so, we simply sell the camper and buy a new one!! -- the new unit always comes equipped with a brand new rod. Easy!

X2, and this is the 2nd year on ours. Time to trade in Mar when we get back from FL.

But But But But But But But what if your new trailer has an Atwood water heater? They don't have anode rods.

When you buy the replacement rod, buy two they are inexpensive and you will find that when you find you need a new one so did everyone else and the dealer is out.
