Another back up camera thread....sorry
So, my TT is prewired for the Furrion wireless back up camera. I don't feel like dropping $400 on the set up. Are there any other cameras that will plug in and work with the Furrion set up? I know how to back a trailer seeing I drive Semi trucks for a living. I would just like a cheaper set up for piece of mind. Any help or knowledge would be great..
Thanks in advance.

I have read good and bad reviews with the Furrion. Just want other options also.

I installed the Furion Observation camera from scratch a few weeks ago. Simple install, and crystal clear picture for the entire trip all the way at the back of the 43' camper. I'm happy, as it allows me to keep an eye on the golf cart trailer.

We just ordered the observation camera from Amazon. Expect it next week. Looking forward to extra safety, as our trailer is a bit wider than our truck/mirrors.

Got the backup only camera which is wired to clearance lights. If you turn on the lights while driving, you get clear view. I don't need it driving use my mirrors, but if you want to see a tailgater, you can.

We have the Furrion FOS48 system on our new CC34RL2. With 3 months and about 3,000 miles experience I am not so happy with the system. Although a "color" system, the rendering is very poor. With lower levels of color/brightness/contrast it's just gray scale (black and white). With mid-level or higher levels of color/brightness/contrast everything is just shades of gray and pink. Pink trees, pink grass, pink cars, etc! The monitor works color just fine as the "guidance" bars (red/yellow/green) are vivid but the camera quality is what sucks. Signal strength is OK, so that's not the problem.
I called Furrion about the issue, and after some hassle they sent me another camera/monitor system that performs like the first.
Another option to consider is the NuCam WR:

Here is a recent review:
Nice to be able to use it as a dash camera when desired as well.

Same as TandSH.
Beats nothing.........by a mile!! But monitor is tiny and only when sun is shining just right do the colors work well. And it's useless at night....totally. Car lights from behind me blind it......you just see a bright light........(sorta like dying!! LOL)
Mine quit pairing for a while but after a good talking to, it started working again (no clue why!!)
I wonder about the Tadi Brothers rear view camera mirror.
I am waiting till FROG to see the Vendor display.............

Amazon has all sorts of cameras and dual video/power cables that work well. Some have a reversed image, some don't so sometimes it takes a little experimenting to find the right camera. I have them on both sides and the rear of my fiver. The rear camera has IR (I don't have backup lights on the 5r). I have a 7 inch monitor with 4 inputs - wish now I'd gotten a 9 inch since I have room. The monitor will show a variety of different combinations 1, 2, 3, cameras, but I find that I generally just use a single camera, either the rear or the blind side. Easy to select a camera or combination of cameras.
I never tried any of the wireless setups as I ran all the wires in less than an hour and don't have to worry about reception. Get a handful of tie-wraps and have at the bottom of your TV. I had power available at the dash - you need it for the monitor, anyway - so I ran a power line to the rear then use a 3 way splitter with power going to each camera.
The wires on the camper were easy to run. I loosened a few of the bolts that hold up the coroplast belly then used a long piece of romex wire as a fishing pole. If you need to come up the side, you can run it under the plastic strip over the screw strip. Or, easier yet, get some black duct tape and tape it over the screw strip - nearly invisible unless someone is looking for it and easy to experiment and move the camera around to find the perfect position.
I probably have less than $150 in my setup.

Ordered my FOS48 camera - used it this week
I bought my Furion FOS48 (Observation) camera from Palm Beach RV via Ebay for under $280.00. New unit in the box with tracking. Very happy camper. Works well. I set it to look further out while travelling so I can see a ways back and see the cars pass to the side. If you want it for backup you will have to lower the camera to see a bit of your bumper.
Good luck.

I just bought and installed the UCam.com system from Amazon. In my opinion, a much better unit for less money- $279.00 no tax free shipping, and really great customer service. Also comes with the adapter plate to fit right on the Furion mount. We are very pleased with this unit. Wouldn't even consider the Furion.

Forgot to mention- this is a rear observation system, not a back-up camera.

How is the refresh / lag?
The only one I have found without some amount of lag is the Furrion FOS48.
Everything else I tried including the Garmin BC20 camera for the RV760LTM RV GPS, had massive lag which made it worthless for observation. The car coming up on the rear of the trailer on the monitor was in actuality alreadt beside the tow vehicle.
I like that 7" screen.

I've noticed this as well. Only used it for about 100 miles thus far, but you can't seem to rely on the picture to tell you that all's clear. Need to factor in some "mental training" to account for closing/passing speed of oncoming vehicle and whether or not the lane is actually clear despite what the monitor is showing you. A 1-2 second lag seems to be the case, which can make a huge difference even at small closing speeds.

After looking at the ucam and the NuCam, I think that I am going to try out the NuCam. I like the versatility. Also there's no need to splice in the wires on the wiring needed. We shall see how it goes. If I don't like it I can send it back and not have to worry about the wiring.

I suppose it all depends on the use.
If you want an observation camera, a dedicated monitor is probably better. The NuCam would eat up your cell phone leaving it on all the time. During a trip, I have better uses for my phone. If you use it just to back-up, then it could be OK.
The Ucam seen some unfavorable reviews on Amazon and in the video there appeared to be some lag as the car went by where the guy was parked.
It's a crap shoot.
