antenna on top of rv

Hey all,
you have been so helpful so far, that I would like to pose another question...

I have a new 2016 Forest River Forester 3011ds...on top it has a nice looking antenna and inside on the roof there is a white box...the box has an on and off switch that lights up blue, and the dial only seems to turn the antenna for best signal...

When they did the orientation with my wife and I...I remember them saying that the antenna goes down when you turn it one way, and up the other...I think the dial only turns the antenna...thinking that I may be going crazy...I looked inside the cabinets to see if there was a tube or something that it would drop down into...

so my question, is it possible the antenna does not go down, and stays up all of the time?

Is it shaped like a flying saucer/UFO?

If it looks like this it is an attenuator. It rotates the antenna on the roof to get the best signal and does some electronic tuning. Just turn it until you get the most lights.

It is black and it is a triangle or boomerang shape. The unit inside does have lights the stronger the signal

Ours isn't a FR product but we have an antenna like that and it doesn't retract. It stays like that, the reception isn't great unless you are really close to a station. We bought a DirecTV dish to use.

If the outside unit looks like this:
Winegard Sensar RV TV Antenna
It goes up and down and rotates..

If the outside unit looks like the attached white one, It does not go up and down, but just rotates.

We have a 2015 3010DS and that also came with the fixed antenna that does not go up or down. The person that did the PDI with us said that was the new style of antenna being used so I assume you have that also. The clearance height for an RV is normally calculated with the crank down antenna in the down position but since this antenna is a fixed height that is less than the air conditioner height it will not affect height clearance.
