Any workcampers or camp hosts here?

We've been talking to the camp hosts at several of our recent stops.
Sounds like a good way to be able to spend some long term low budget
camping.

My first thoughts were "these jobs are gonna be full and very hard to get".
Talking to some hosts I find that may not be entirely true.
Last guy I talked to said once he got "on the radar" his cell phone rings
every week or 2 from parks and campgrounds wanting him to come work
for them.

If you have any experience camp hosting or work camping I'd sure like
your 2¢.

How do you find jobs?
What else do I not even know to ask?

DW retires in a year or so and we plan to move up to a 5th wheel and
would like to spend some serious time on the road so I'm trying to
learn about this.
All comments appreciated!

This is a job I've thought would be a great way to stay in some of our State parks. I get an email periodically from the Friends of Wisconsin State Parks and earlier this year they were looking for volunteer hosts. Here's a link. Apparently WI SPs just have you complete an application.

At the moment I'm just dreaming..... but most likely will do some in the
near future. As mentioned I'm probably gonna get a slightly bigger
trailer and of course that means a bigger truck!
Momma retires probably in a year.
Once that happens I can see us doing some longer term camping.
We especially love national parks and national forests. The discussion
over on RV.net is that most everyone who's hosted for the park/forest
service is happy with the experience.

I was just wondering of any of the FR folks had experiences to share.

Fort Pickens

My parents had great times volunteering at Fort Pickens Campground in the Gulf Islands National Seashore. Fort Pickens Campground - Gulf Islands National Seashore
We visited there July/August of 2011 and they were looking for volunteers to help out with the campground. They give you a place to park your rig in return for working for them.
