I made this boat trailer to take the bikes & kayaks, all together in one unit. I use the winch on the trailer tongue to slowly pull the entire unit up and into the garage area of my RV. Then using the recessed D-rings, strap the entire unit down securely to the floor during travel. It is more work to do during each trip, but it is worth it to be able to enjoy these items camping. With all toys inside while towing, it is safer and with less worrying about what might come loose from the drag of the wind. It is all about priorities ... what you are willing to do when you go Rving.

Well the maiden voyage for the new camper pulled by the relatively new truck hauling the new kayaks kicks off in less than 9hrs.

Fingers crossed for safe travels and happy times....stay tuned!!

Anyone haul their yaks inside their camper?!

We got these about 6 years ago on eBay for about ? $50-ish. They are just fine hauling our 2 kayaks. I have seen someone put a sit on top between the hooks for a third kayak. This is our 3rd Explorer, we just insist on factory roof racks when we purchase the car. No way we could fit the kayaks in the door of the camper, and that is where we carry our bikes in a floor stand. I can get one or two big bikes outside on a clamp-on hitch rack.

Yup, factory rack would have been nice on my pickup. Not having one is the reason the rack and yak holder setup is going to cost me over $900

If i go with a Yakima setup, it's going to cost me about $950 for the rack and the 3 kayak craddles...that's 1.5 times more than i spent on the brand new yaks!!
We purchased from US Rack. Paddlers Rack and two Sea Wing mounts. Ordered the longer cross bars. Could fit mounts on the outer side of the crossbar and a canoe or maybe another mount in the middle. Was $600 to 700 total??? $30 each extra for the longer cross bars. Good customer service and nice looking product.

racks for kayaks

We got inexpensive ladder racks on Amazon (around $50), padded them with swim noodles, and strap the kayaks down, each with two straps (one front, one back). We secure the ladder racks to the truck using 8 c-clamps. Setting the racks up before a trip and loading the kayaks doesn't take that long. The most time-consuming part is tightening the c-clamps.
