Are spring-loaded bars necessary in fridge?
We haven't used our TT yet so we aren't sure what things we really need to buy and what things we can do without. Are these kind of bars really necessary for the fridge to keep things from falling out?

If you have food in the fridge and moving down the road, the bumps and swings will shift anything on the shelves, including milk jugs, ketchup, and other items. Get parked and open the door = mess on the floor. Bars keep items from shifting = no mess on the floor.

We've never had fridge issues without the bars but we do have cabinet issues with our dishes. That first opening after a trip almost always comes with a surprise for the opener.

Thanks. We actually found one double set in one of the cabinets that the previous owner had left. I wasn't sure if they had used it in the cabinet or in the fridge. Are the bars good to have in upper cabinets also?

They're good to use wherever you might have items shifting. Often, I can put enough stuff in my fridge that it all kind of holds each other up and wouldn't fall over. Most of my cabinets are the same, but when I'm not carrying that much stuff, I use the bars.

Mine has a rear kitchen and haven't had any 'mass exidess' yet. 'course,if you've got a lot of stuff in it, then nothing can get a ' head of steam ' up to move.

While we are pretty "religious" about checking the fridge door latch, accidents do happen. Finding that catsup and broken eggs all over the camper is no fun at all. It only takes one episode to put spring loaded retainers on EVERY shelf.
Objects also "shift" in flight, and opening the door to your beer bottles breaking on the floor also stinks...

The bars won't help here but we've had the microwave open on us in transit a couple times. Broke the plate one of those times.

Happened to a neighbor our first trip out. We stuff towels in there now during travel. It is that heavy glass plate banging against the door that opens it.
Secure the plate; secure the door.

In all my years of RV travel I have never had a fridge mess to deal with. BBQ sauce or Catsup i just put in Zip Lock bags if they dont' fit on the door. Scoot Gaurd works wonders in all cupboards withe dishes or bottles. I did put some flexible wire curtain rod on the pantry shelves to stop things from falling out and the bottle cabinet above the control panel.

Love the spring loaded bars. We use a couple in the fridge and also a few in overhead cabinets to keep things from shifting around during transit.

We use the bars in the fridge. My mom used to use mini-bungie cords on the cabinet doors to make sure they stayed shut. Fewer surprises when you set up!

Some of the newer fridges like mine have fridge bars installed on the racks already so check your rv before buying any. As for the Cabinets I found using a foam cabinet shelf liner prevents almost all the movement in my cabinets. It's cheap and easy to install.

You can also use cheap spring tension curtain rods in the fridge and such.
We use them also in the shower cubicle for hanging towels up.

I have a pool noodle cut to push down on the plate while traveling. Cheap and lite and effective.

I use plastic tubs in the overhead bins for food & dishes while driving - definite peace of mind to open them on arrival to quick unpack ...then when I get home just carry everything inside for a quick dishwasher run & get ready for the next trip out.
I also use 6 pack cardboard holders - one for sunscreens, one for bugstuff & one for liquid soaps & first aid - makes it easy to load / unload (can't leave liquids in trailer in FL when not in use - the heat is too expansive & then I come in to a mess before we travel. I love the noodle idea for the microwave & I always use those spring loaded bars in cabinets below & fridge ...beer is just too precious a cargo!

Great idea with the pool noodle! We always (well.. Nearly always) try to remember to take the micro plate out b4 we roll. I will cut myself a noodle b4 we leave FL in a few weeks to head home to Kentucky. If we campers keep finding new things to do with our noodles the price is going to skyrocket! They are almost as versatile as duct tape.
