Assist Handle
I am thinking about installing an assist handle in addition to the tiny handle that came with our TT . Anyone have experience with installing one of these ?? Its the handle at the rear door/step area, and it would be the folding kind.. Thanks .... Dave

Youroo, one of my kids is disabled and I looked at the Stromberg handle and the one I saw was kind of cheesy looking. It had a stainless looking finish. I would gladly pay more for a nice stainless handle or even a nice annodized aluminum one. I was not impressed with the Stromberg one. I have not really looked hard for this, do you know of others?

I am not sure. I saw one at a local mom and pop RV parts and repair center. The stainless steel look is like a metalic krylon spray paint look to it. I could really use one of these and may break down and get it. I honestly have not researched in any great depth. I would be happy with a powder coated black one, but that stainless steel look, is like saying it has a filet mignon look to ground beef....

The assist handle in Sherdep's picture looks like the one we installed on our SV263. The screws that came with the handle were way too long for the TT and poked through to the inside. Easy fix with shorter screws and/or washers. The handle is a nnice addition, but I wouldn't swing on it.

Howdy neighbor!
I'm not sure how installation would go on aluminium.

are you sure your Puma has aluminum sides? the only trailer i know that does, is Airstream.
your Puma should have the same sandwiched fiberglass walls that hers has.
the handles are attached to the interior door frame.

Valover... Do you know the right size for the screws that are needed without going thru to the inside ?? Also did you mount to aluminum siding or smooth ??

We ended up using some washers with the screws that came with the handle. If I remember correctly, we tried shorter screws first, but they didn't secure the handle tight enough. When you have the pieces in your hand, you should be able to see how many washers are needed - probably two for each screw, but I really don't remember for sure. Our siding is smooth.

i'm sorry, i completely missed aluminum siding!
i saw aluminum and went straight to Airstream, not remembering that there are lots of trailers with aluminum siding.

Bikendan,,,No big deal.. I may not be able to install a swing type handle because of the awning support being so close to the door anyway ...
