Automatic awnings

Does anyone know if you need to use a tye down with a power awning. my old TT had a manuel awning and when you put it up it locked into place and with a good shake you knew it was secure. But with this power awning I dont know if it is secure or not... I would love some imput it is a 2009 Surveyor 5er 306BH.

I wouldn't try to tie it down. I had an old TT with manual awning tied down, but on my Georgetown the new electric awning doesn't seem as sturdy. But why would you want to tie it down? If the weather gets bad hit the switch and retract it. If your going to be gone retract it, if your outside extend it. It is too easy to make it go in and out to worry about tying it down, mine even has a remote control, and wind sensor so I don't even have to get up.

I have to agree with khager, we had manual awnings on both our other campers and we always put them back up if weather looked threatening. It's so easy now it's awesome, just push a button and it goes out, push the button again and it comes in. I see a lot of complaints about the electric awnings because you can't tilt them and water gets on them and they cave in, well get up off your butt and push the button to put it back up when the weather gets bad. People make everything so difficult when it's super easy. Personally I love the electric awning.

The problem we find is if it starts to rain, the issue is not pushing the button to retract the awning, it's racing to move all our stuff from under the awning so it doesn't get wet.

I'm with you here gizzys, we usually have our camp chairs set out and an aluminum table with our grill set up and who knows what else. I like the convenience of the power awning but I miss my old manual one that I could strap down, put the deflappers on the ends and not have to worry about a storm coming up or having to put all our stuff away.

You can strap down an automatic awning but just be sure to disable the wind sensor by following the instructions in the manual. I push two buttons on the key fob remote at the same time and it disables the wind sensor. Our only problem is that the awning is too high up to get a tie down on it without a ladder.
