Awning LED lights - 2013 Surveyor 220

More trouble with the LED lights that came in the Carefree awning. Had trouble with the individual bulbs burning out about four months after we purchased it a year ago. Got the light strip replaced. That lasted for eight months, now more trouble.

Over the weekend, one bulb (out of about 50) burned out. Then within a few minutes 13 more went out. Stopped by our dealer on the way home and they popped in a new strip. And took photos of the malfunctioning one.

They said they'd seen lots of trouble with this at first but haven't seen any problems with the 2014 and 2015 models. So I'm hoping what they had in stock are the new and improved LED's. We love the awning lights and are determined to get it resolved.

Hope this is helpful to anyone else who has the 2013 awning LED option.

I have the PI portable unit. Do you think a power surge or other electrical problem could cause some of the LED's to go out but others in the same strip will stay on? We didn't have a problem with any of our other electronics.

LED's are susceptible to high and low voltage. I suspect it is more a problem with quality control of the manufacturer. The LED's can be sorted, called binning, by brightness, color, or voltage. Most times they are only binned by brightness. I used to work in sales for a major manufacturer of LED message signs for highway use. They only used binned LED's for brightness and had to pay a premium for those. For a product like the strip lights binned LED's for any of the three reasons would not normally be used.

Good and cheap don't go together. So, I guess it is "stuff happens" and hope you have better results. One or two failing I would say would be about normal but have a lot of them fail may mean poor quality.
