Back in a couple days...

For folks posting to BamaGanza/Alaska or just PMing me, I will be a tad unresponsive over the next few days.

I am going in tomorrow morning (at the ungodly hour of 0445!) for cervical fusion surgery. No big deal, but I will be in a cervical brace, and I am not so sure how conducive that will be to tapping out messages on a iPad

I should be back home Friday and have access to the desktop computer (which has been specifically adjusted to accommodate BamaBob, cervical brace and all )

Good luck BamaBob. Is that the surgery where they go in through the front of the neck?

Good luck with that! I had 5 fusions in my neck on feb 2. I am finally able to not wear the brace as of last friday.I can drive the car now,but cant turn my head without discomfort enough to drive the truck or tow. The doc used cages and screwed in plates,no rods.Let me know if you want more info!

Best of luck BamaBob and to trbomax hope you can drive soon. I have arthritis in the neck and I am hoping they will never have to go in and fuse it.

Bob, Yes, Sir it is! They tell me that what with moving all the parts around I will be on a Tonsillectomy diet for a few days (fine by me, I could stand to loose a few more pounds )

Thanks Turbo - I am getting a "ladder fusion" - only 2 vertebrae, and I expect to be in the cervical brace for 2 weeks then a magnetic collar for another 2 weeks.

Only problem I am told is I am gonna be a "Happy FROG" for 1-2 days post-op. When I get home Friday I have a desktop setup to accommodate the brace, so I will keep you all posted!

Be sure to follow the doctor's orders to the letter during your recovery, especially if you have to wear the neck brace. I believe the tonsillectomy diet includes beer.

I hope you have a speedy recovery.

Mine was done from the rear.Doc said that he has done from the front but doesnot like to because it almost always inflicts some kind of damage to the esophigus and/or windpipe.I was on the table 10.5 hrs,but I did have all the vertibra done.If you can go w/o the collar after 2 weeks your a much faster healer than I am!The advantage to front entry is that the muscles that run alongside the vert are not cut.Maybe that is what delayes my recovery.I go tomorrow for a check up and full battery of x rays so he can see if what he did is working out.I will run this by him.I will say that I never had any pain that I thought needed suppression

Good luck tomorrow. It doesn't look like you got an XLX. Last year on the factory tour I thought you might get one.

Have had 3 of these. Did not need that much pain medication any of them. Over night in hospital then home.
Hope you both do well.
