Bad Day at the Campground

Spent two nights near Grandfather Mountain, NC this past weekend. We had our 5th wheel and our daughter had her tow behind. When we started to pack up and leave Sunday afternoon, we discovered that someone had stolen the slide in hitch from the back of her tow vehicle!

Now what? 200 miles from home and no hitch. We ended up going to Advance Auto and purchased a 2" hitch, 2 5/16" ball, and locking pin. No other choice. She had a slow, careful ride home with no load equalizing hitch or sway bar. Fortunately she has a big, heavy, tow vehicle.

Some low life person out there somewhere. We are not sure if the bad deed occurred at the campground, or in the town of Boone, as she did made 2 trips into town. Her replacement hitch will have a locking pin on it. I guess it is too easy to trust people. Sure hope it was not another camper!

I locked mine for that very reason, mainly if mine went away I'd be stuck and what if I couldn't find even a basic 2 5/16 setup?

Course now I'm thinking how to lock my 5er hitch down. Hmmmmmm

Sorry to hear it, people just suck.

Unless it was a very expensive WDH, I doubt it would make the deductible, or just barely. My WDH was about $500, which is usually the lowest deductible. Many people go with $1000.

That's why I never take mine off and have a locking pin. Some one stole a friends while he was parked at work. I put my other parts away and lock them up also, no matter where you go some one will affect you in a negative way. Insurance probably wouldn't be worth talking to unless you have one of those really expensive hitches, most have a $250 to $500 deductible. Sorry to hear this hope it didn't ruin your trip.
