I did not bother drilling holes when I noticed mine was full of water. It took a long heavy duty screwdriver and punched it through the bottom of the box with a hammer. Problem solved. Didn't have to remove the battery Or disconnect it.

He's a "Tool Push" not a "Driller".

Another vote for drilling holes in the bottom. "NO MORE RAIN IN MY BOXES"!

What about this? Lots of cars have batteries under the seat. I have a 67 VW battery under back seat. Corvettes, buick, lots of gm's are vented but no box. Batteries usually DO NOT Leak. I was a mechanic and shop owner 50 years plus. Don

Most new trailers have vents to get rid of hydrogen gas also. Very explosive. Had to modify my boxes when I converted to golf cart batteries. Drilled holes to drain water.

I guess one could go to Wal-mart and find a clear plastic storage bin that would fit nicely up-side down over the battery box(s) and use a bungy cord to hold it down. Just sayin...

Actually...I not only drilled drainage holes in the bottom of the boxes I used silicone to seal up to top vents to prevent water from coming in. There is PLENTY of ventilation where the cables come out and from the holes in the bottom. Problem completely solved. Been doing this for at least 40 years.

Doesn't matter if you drill the box or punch the box, it's usually good for the box.

When was the last time you saw a battery leaking? just about all batteries are a sealed type. Does a car or truck have a battery box? The batter box is to keep the battery covered and the post from from weather and the battery from resting on the frame and looks better covered . Just drill a hole or 2 and don't worry about it ,

About two years ago, but not leaking from the case; from the caps.

Many of the deep cycle batteries are still wet so not sealed.

Mine leaked from the caps due to the roads (or should I say trails) traveled with the trailer. (One reason why I travel with a jug of distilled water to add to the batteries, if needed, in the truck bed.)

Won't happen to 99% of the people, but it can happen if you travel really nasty trails. And can happen to those pulling off-road type trailers on really nasty, but fun, trails.
