ironj,

We're planning essentially the same trip for sometime next summer, and thought after school was back in session (mid- to late August and into September) might be the best option...certainly for fewer crowds. Please let us know, either through posts or by PM what you are finding, where you stay, what the weather is like, etc.

Thanks in advance, and have a safe, enjoyable trip.

Mike

I never brought any bear spray, but Cabellas and/Bass Pro Shop come to mind as possible places to get it.

They may also have binoculars, but Walmart and Best Buy could have them also. I got a good pair that you can borrow if you could come by the house to pick them up.

Thanks sir!!

I went by cabelas today and "of course" one of the managers was one of my customers. ..

Long story short I ended up with a 2 pack of bear blast , a pair of nikon 10x32 binocs, a new handgun, and lord knows what clothing my wife got.. :-/

I got the "good ol boy" employee discount too....so I killed all them birds with one stone. ..and some other birds as collateral damage too...haha

Glad to hear that - have a safe and enjoyable trip.

I brought some Elephant Repellant spray there - works great I haven't seen any elephants around the house since I used it.

If you see signs like this, you may want to rethink the Bear Spray. Lol... Have fun and enjoy!

Might be the four letter word in the last sentence. I would still heed it, real or not.

Did you get the bear spray in the six/eight inch bottle? Anything less your just teasing the bear. By time you go to the second bottle, it's too late. We spent a week in Yellowstone during the 4th of July.

HAHA I've seen that sign before!

- I missed this thread or would have responded earlier as we lived out west for over a decade. Couple of thoughts since you are already hooked up with gear

Oh wait, I have to brag - these are our binos & we love em! so inexpensive we both have a pair!
Amazon.com: Bushnell Powerview 7-15x25 Compact Zoom Binocular: Sports & Outdoors

Now, on to Bear Spray. There is only one out there that is EPA approved to actually stop a bear in its tracks and that is Counter Attack (2% Capicsum) Like the B.C. sign says, all Pepper Spray will do in some cases is act as a appetizer for the soon to be dinner LOL!

Amazon has some here - reminds me I need to check the epireation date on our bottle
http://www.amazon.com/Counter-Assaul...ult+bear+spray

Bear Spray good news! Bear sprays were actually developed for the more aggressive Grizzly Bears. Most Black Bears (what you will find in the parks) are really not interested in attacking you - they, like Yogie Bear of cartoon Fame are more interested in what is in your pick-a-nick basket

So, practice good anti-bear foraging: no food left outside, all garbage in a bear proof trash can AWAY from camp. Oh and after you grill that delicious T-Bone steak...clean the grill and the grease trap!

Noticed you also picked up a handgun. Friendly piece of advice - tests have shown that counter attack works better than a handgun (um, unless you picked up a Desert Eagle with AP rounds )

Thanks....the spray I got is larger cans...2% capicsum.......

The handgun had nothing to do with the bear...It was an item i wanted to add to my collection and I got a good deal...nothing more.. (colt 1911 defender .45acp stainless).....

I have another set of bushnells that are decent...but at 10-45 or so a little big to lug around....

We just got back from Yellowstone. It was beautiful and cold. Snowing the day we left at the east entrance . Camp at fishing bridge. Quite but very tight camp sights. Saw buffalo, elk, moose, bear and a wolf that walked right by me. I froze. Scared me to death. But what an experience. I hear July is wakeful time to go.
