beeping alarm?
I have removed the battery from my 5th wheel for the winter, but I hear a beeping periodically, it seems to be when the weather is cold. I spent a couple of hours near the RV on the weekend when the weather was in the 40s, and no beep. I go out this morning, the temp is 16 deg and there is the beeping again. Any ideas?

You may have a smoke detector with its own 9v battery, and that battery is running low.

Did you go inside and try to pin point the beep? You said removed the battery, and that is fine. My trailer also has batteries in the smoke detector, and one in the CO detector.
The propane detector in my camper is the only one connected to the 12 volt system.
If you have never changed them, either of these could be giving you a low voltage beep.

Yep. Smoke detector battery. When cold there is not enough juice left to make it beep to be changed. When it warmed up it started beeping again.
Wait long enough and you won't have to worry about the beeping anymore. (They won't work, but no beeping)

I forgot to remove the battery on mine and I can hear the beeping outside the trailer because it is parked in my driveway. It will beep all winter because in order to remove the battery I have to open the pull out and I dont plan to open the pull out until I prepare the trailer in the spring.

I pulled the battery from the smoke detector when I winterized the unit. No beep... Come Spring I'll install a new battery just because. (By the way, you can get 9v batteries at the Dollar store, Dollar Tree where I live.)

vasnipe: the batteries from the dollar stores are quite cheap and it is better to put a alkaline battery in your detector. Just changing of subjet I see that you drive a 1986 Helix. I have a 1986 elite 250cc also I it is in pristine condition I will show you a picture in another tread.

Decided I would put in new batteries in the 3 detectors today...only the smoke detector had a battery 9v and it was installed backwards...the bottom was toward the contact end. Made me upset (nice words) when I saw it and thought what if!
So for those getting new to you units or new from factory units check your batteries, wished I had. BTW the CO and propane units did not have batteries as a backup, only run when on shore power.

I camped for a year in my new camper and went to change the two smoke detector batteries. It had gone through PDI and a trailer inspection at my so called "dealer" with both batteries wrapped in cellophane.

HemiCab: usully if the battery is installed in reverse the cover of your smoke detector will not close! I find strange that you were able to close the cover.

The design made it easy to close in either orientation. It does not have the piece that clips on to the battery, it is flat spring contact points.
