Looking for the best route from NJ to VA passed MD Tunnel, will be going to Williamsburg in the Summer and down to FL in Fall have to avoid that Dang Tunnel.

695 East over the bridge is how we go. Follow 95 most of the way.

I have not been over the Bay Bridge yet but have read that many people are freaked out when crossing. How is it in an RV? My daughter crosses it in her Honda Civic with no problem but her co-workers will hire someone to drive their cars across.

I don't know what peoples issues are with the bridge. It's no different than any other. I commuted across for a couple years. I've been across with campers many times.

The answer really depends on when you are traveling. You do not want to be crossing the Bay Bridge east to west at the end of a weekend. Week days after 10am and Sat are fine. If you are traveling on a Sat or mid day during the week, you can take 301-Bay Bridge-Rt50-I95 down to Williamsburg. I travel bridge regularly with TT including just before it was shut down for wind and not a real problem. Speed is reduced to 40mph if windy. If you are concerned about bridge itself, coming down, you can stay in middle lane and be more secure. 301 is two lane and little traffic ( mostly trucks) fairly well patrolled so speeding truck is not a big problem. Other option is 301 south vs 95 after Rt50. There are lots of lights and shopping center traffic so not much fun especially on a weekend.

You should be fine with 301 . 6-9 am weekdays Bay bridge going E to W is slow, but it is about 1hr from Del Mem bridge to Bay Bridge so you should clear that. You should also be fine with the 301-50-95 route as you will be past the DC traffic by about 0500. Not sure where in NJ you are coming from, but when you can get to 295 easily take that to the Del Mem bridge I prefer over the turnpike.

Its just much, much taller then the CBBT but of course much shorter as well, the CBBT is 17 miles long.. Some folks actually pay someone like 25 bucks to drive them across I suppose for fear of heights.

Been over it many times myself enroute to DC or Baltimore. I suppose if towing an RV in a real strong crosswind it could be a bit dicey at the top.

Yeah but going South From LBI NJ We can not use the MD Tunnel bc of (2) 30lb bottles of propane, and no you can't turn them off they consider LP hazmat issue for campers

You cannot use the tunnels but can use 695, the HAZMAT detour route. The Key Bridge is even higher than the Bay Bridge, so I'd avoid that if afraid of the Bay Bridge. If you do cross the Bay Bridge you do not need to use the Baltimore Tunnels, it avoids them.

An alternate route would be down through Delaware rt 1 to rt 13 down the shore, stop for the night at Kiptopeke SP by the CBBT then go across the bridge to 64 west to Williamsburg. No doubt longer the other routes but might add a bit of intrigue to your trip.

I could not find the letter. But It was from the transit PD for the tunnel. It was saying how you cannot have a 20lb cylinder and cross the tunnel but you could have up to (I think it was) 100 1lbs cylinders and be fine...
