Big rain....

We have reservations in a state park this weekend and they're calling for 2 inches of rain on Saturday. It's just me and DW... not sure what to do.

I'm kinda new at this, should I go anyway and hope the forecast is wrong, or cancel??? It's supposed to rain on Sunday, too, so we'll have to pack up wet and in the rain.

I'm leaning towards going, but what would you do?

your call.... if you have a pop up or Hybrid having to pack up wet canvas may play a role in your decision.

Otherwise, i say go. What's the worst thing that happen, you have to spend time with the DW in the camper?

FYi, Nothing is better to sleep to then rain on the roof of the camper

Luckily, we are familiar with the park and reserved a good spot for heavy rain. Not sure I can deal with DW in the rain with no internet. Internet for her, not me!

We used to camp with a pop up. We spent many rainy days camping including packing it up in the rain. It sucks, but when we got home I would open everything up and put an industrial fan in for a day to dry everything well before permanently packing it up. You really don't want any moisture before packing it up due to mildew growth. Living in BC if we were to only camp in the rain we would never get out.

Go. IMO, having the right gear...make that rain gear...makes setup and take down manageable. Not sure what you have for a camper, just plan accordingly regarding meals, activities, etc. It'll be good training, right? You will however, have more post clean up once back at home.

And make it easy for DW.

After all, there is no such thing as a bad day off. It's just some are better than others

A rainy day at the campground is better than a sunny day at home!

I would go. Plan for the rain. Unhitch , Level, jacks down, elect ect connected, slide out. Enjoy. Plan food you can prepare inside, bring books or games. Get a set of "Frogg Toggs" breathable light weight rain gear. I put them in TV when rain expected. We went camping fo 4 days last week with 100% chance of rain every day. Rained for 1.5 hours after we ate dinner first night. That was it. Turned out to be a great trip.

I would go, acquired a Army poncho from someplace which I would wear when setting up or breaking camp, changing a flat or laying on.

It was handy last year in Rapid City, SD.

Every tool must have more than one use....

I guess the $1000 dollar question is do you enjoy getting WET?
To some folks the rain is a mere distraction, to others they hate it, in any way, shape, or form.

Been there, done that too many times to mention when we were tent campers. But also being as we were kids then it didn't bother us getting drenched in the rain. It was just a fun day in the rain. Nowadays, it's a different story. A little rain is okay. 2" as you indicate, that's a bit much. And another factor is that you don't know if it's going to be 2" of downpour or a steady rain. As others have said be prepared for what comes.

On a good note, this would give you a chance to check out the camper for any signs of leaks, etc.

When we are planning an outing and the weatherman is forecasting rain, we keep an eye on the percentages. When usually under or about 50%, we are going. Weatherman so often gets it wrong! AND then again, sometimes not!

Our motto is, if we can't go this weekend we will go next weekend. We too have had to cancel our prepaid reservations due to the weather, that we were so looking forward to. But to me, the days of getting caught in any substantial amount of rain ( if I can help it ) are over. As I say, a little rain is good, but a lot of rain.....and we are diverting our plans. And having a pet along ( big pet ) is another factor for us.

Keep tabs on that forecast. Maybe the weatherman will come through for you.

We carry rain gear, winter clothing and summer clothing. Used them all where we go. When our bunch was much younger, the ladies would head inside and us MEN would stand out by the fire in our rain suits and keep the fire going. Whatever rings your bells. Dry camping is our usual way of camping although in a week or so we will be going up to the UP of Michigan for 2 weeks in a campground with full hook up.

LOL You must be coming to Ohio this weekend! The rain is a great way to explore the area, visit a couple wineries or something along those lines. Spend some quality time together, just you and DW. Go find someplace you've never been before, you may find it unique!
Either-way fun is what you make it out to be.....

Thanks all!

The forecast degraded even more since I posted. It's now 2-3 inches of rain, 40 mph gusts and a high of 62.

We bagged it.... I'm already mad at myself. The weather had better be as bad as they say it will be. It's sunny right now.... grrrr.

We were in the same boat. Had a great site in a SP , right by a beautiful creek. We were still going to go but the flood warnings convinced us otherwise. Still got out though to a CG in Gettysburg. Bummed that we missed the great SP site but so far we have has a great weekend despite the rain.

Could be worse. We left Casa Grande, Az. at 80+ degrees and three days later at Williams, Az. we had to wait till 11:00 for the 2" of snow to melt off the sliders to pack up.
