Bike rack

I am looking at the ladder bike rack I have one bike to haul.. my question is will my ladder support one bike without ripping the ladder off the camper?

There should be a weight rating sticker on the camper's ladder. The sticker on ours states 300 lbs max. I've never tried carry a bike on it though.

I made a receiver for the front so that the bikes are over the bed of the truck.

Very neat! You could go into business making those. Too bad my short bed does not have the room between the front of the aerocap and the pickup cab.

I toured the factory a few weeks ago and asked about the bike ladder racks. They said do not use them. The bouncing of the rack and bikes on the back of the trailer could rip the ladder mounts off the back of the trailer and that would not be covered by warranty. So I decided no way on the bike rack and have purchased a roof mount rack for my TV.

I would rather be safe than sorry.

i have just brought 2 bikes back from Florida using a camping world ladder bike rack..worked fine for me ...i tied down both bikes with straps ..bungees,,ropes...ratchet tie downs...it was extreme overkill...but no movement anywhere ...on anything...and it worked

I've seen people mount bikes on the front of their truck. I am interested in doing that. Anyone know about that?

I thought about that but i don't want to block any air moving thru the trans cooler or radiator.

Hmmm...I haven't thought about that. I wonder if there is a way for the bikes to be out and above the area where air would come in without blocking your vision. Something to check out.

I have a front hitch on my TV.
I've carried two bikes in 100 degree weather with no increase in engine/transmission tempurature. There is enough air flow through the bikes as to not cause a problem.

I noted a 5-10 degree increase in trans heat (not significant IMO).

Lost about 1 MGP in gas mileage though. Cost of doing business.

I installed a 18" electric fan on my tv and that made a difference
not only on my trans temp which was never high before
Now its only lower. It also made a difference on my mpg
Since the clutch fan never works now.
