If there is no line, yes I will take my time and clean out my tank good. If others are waiting, I'll dump, fill the tank with water, take a drive down a bumpy road then get back in line at the dump station to dump again.

You are probably right about the 40 gallon tank but remember if there is 5 gallons of water in the tank then the drain pipe is full and when it freezes it will expand and possibly break.

Honestly, I have no experience with freezing or winterizing as I was born in Florida (yes, I'm the one) and still live here but I would think the drain pipe may crack if the water in it freezes.

Agreed on running clear. Just curious about cleaning the sensors. Even though they are notoriously worthless. LOL

Good point but I don't think there is a trap in the drain pipe to the black tank is there?? I am pretty sure I can see directly into the tank when I flush the toilet!? I know there is traps connected to the sinks etc but never really thought about the toilet since I thought I could see directly into the tank!

I leave the blank tank flush running with valve closed, till it fills up the blank tank. THEN I turn off flush hose, and dump black tank. I repeat as often as it takes till water is clear.

Sounds like some of y'all need to leave on Monday, and others need to agree to move to back of line.

I guess it all depends on where the dump valve is located. If the valve is on the pipe then I would agree. My trailer had the dump valve attached directly to the tank and is operated by a cable that runs down to the dump handle. The pipe only ever has liquid in it when dumping.

Yep...usually about a minute, but we don't poo in ours unless it's an emergency.

I've never encountered any of these long dumpers. I'm not sure why they would take so long. I can hook up, dump, black flush, hose rinse, and disconnect in about 10 min. at the most now that I've got my routine down.

The built in black tank rinse on my TT doesn't work well at all. If i look down into the toilet I can still see "stuff" even after the rinse water runs clear.

Are you filling up the blank tank via the flush, completely, before dumping?

Have you tried adding Calgon or water softener?

What I see down there are loose material, nothing stuck even when the rinse is running.

I would assume that the rinse would "rinse out the tank" I guessed I assumed wrong.

You would think, right? I think it depends on how the guy at the factory was feeling the day he selected the position of the nozzle. I had one rig that rinsed very well with only the flush. My latest one does not. So when it's time for a thorough clean I repeatedly fill the black and flush.

I can't get rid of loose material by leaving valve open and running water. There's always a lot of residual solid matter when doing it that way. The only success I've had is filling the blank tank repeatedly with water, and then flushing out a full tank.

Maybe tanks are different, or maybe I'm doing it wrong. I have a major black tank issue, maybe that's at fault. I don't know.

This goes back to the OP about people spending too much time at a dumping station. I've done the fill, dump, fill, dump method before but it's time consuming. It's not something you want to do while others are waiting.

Even if it only takes 15 min to flush, if you're 6th in line you will be there for 1 1/2 hours. It's common when you have lots of campers and not many dumps. It's true everywhere. There are too many people on earth!

I'm talking about the drain pipe between the black tank and the release valve where you connect your sewer hose. I guess it depends on where that valve is as another has posted...
