Find it hard to believe with a roof vent and other inlets.

Probably had one of those macerator toilets. I hear they pressure up the black tank when flushed. I don't have first hand experience, just what I've read.

But that would suck big time to have that happen, I think I would request a new camper.

Coot, from what I have read, if the vent becomes clogged or if the water level gets high enough it creates pressure. This is the first time I have read anything about a tank exploding though.

I suppose freaky things can happen, but with the toilet inlet and the shower inlet, it just seems highly unlikely. Methane gas and an ignition source? Pretty far fetched.

Did they mix two or more cleaning chemicals that they weren't supposed to? Wow... not a pretty pic.

I'm not buying it. Sprung a leak - maybe. "Exploded?" No.

I'd need to see it to believe it. Show us some pics.

I would have to say there is more to that story. Not likely that it would explode with regular use. But as the t-shirt says...it happens!

Methane and someone flic'n a Bic was my first thought....and then bad combo of chemicals (just below your post) was my second thought.

I had a large, shiny new Forest River fiver a couple years ago that the black tank flush poured water from underneath the camper the first time I used it. Come to find out they had cut the hose too short at the factory, which caused it to be in a bind. As I bounced down the interstate, it broke the molded-in nipple off the black tank, so that water just poured from the enclosed bottom of the camper when I started to flush the tank. Fortunately, that nipple was at or near the top of the tank so that I was able to continue camping while I waited for my new black tank to come in. Maybe the issue mentioned by the OP is something like this rather than an actual explosion.
