Blackwater Tote Question

We have large tanks and camped 7 days and never had to dump anything till we left. 4 people that know how to conserve water. In our camper if you are a water hog you have to go to the shower house. Do have a 27 gallon grey tote for longer stays or if I have to use the washer.

totes are great and a must have when staying for extended periods without full hookups and I own and use one. But emergency situations happen to some people and if you don't own a tote and there's no dump station everyone knows what's going to happen. A little grey soapy gets bled off, seen it happen. Now if it's the black tank your done... pack up and go find a dump station.
Where I live in the country we are on septic systems. Quite a few have their laundry and tub/shower drain on the ground out behind their house..to keep it from over filling their septi tank. BTW the grass and shrubs are doing great.

Use it to slowly bleed off some your grey water tank as needed into the woods or grass. Depend on where you're camping you might want to do this under the moonlight...

You have a valid point when camping in a forested park. What do tent camper do? Dump wash water from dishes in the forest. No real difference.

Thank you. .. I remember my grandparents washing dishes in a tub and throwing the water out in the yard. A little grey water bled off in an emergency situation hurts nothing. I'm not saying to dumping 35 gallons. Also I must say if you're dumping grease down your drain into the grey tank that's not too smart IMO. Also, if you are the grease will float on top of the water. if you bled off a little the grease stays in tank.

We stayed at a Georgia State campground once and it had spreed throughout the campground a square pit looking setup about 2 feet square where it was OK to dump gray water. Looked like small rocks on top and obviously a pit of some kind below it. Many people had long hoses from their dump valve leading into the pit. The campground obviously knew the reality of the situation and provided for it. No problems, flies, or stink. If you keep dishwater out of the gray tank and use biodegradable soap it's not a big deal. Somehow the folk that make a big deal about dumping gray think it is perfectly ok to use the outside shower. Interesting.

Every Georgia State Park I have stayed at and they are many, have all had gray water "pits" to dump your gray water. Most are 55 gal drums in the ground, filled with gravel. I don't remember staying at one that didn't have the "pits".
Just stayed at a CG in VA that had a variation on the same theme, but still a gray water dump. We ARE talking soap and water here.

Be cause of the placment of my kitchen dump valve, I use the garden hose style cap there....then into the sewer hose pipe fitting....valve is located under slide and with my sunday best on, not about to tear the knees out crawling under there.....pull it once. No sewer hook up, take it with me.

We have a tote and have used it a few times, but have found it simpler to just unhook and pull the 28' trailer to the dump station to empty both tanks. Yes, it may not be the best way for some of the rigs, but it gives us something to do to fill our otherwise restful retirements.

I have never used my shower in my fiver. My wife has but now that she knows how clean the RV park bathrooms are she uses them also. Lot of hot water and no off and on with the water.
