I plug an extension cord into the 20 amp outlet and make the wife dry her hair at the picnic table. 😀

My wife uses one all the time. Tripped a breaker once when a.c. was on....... Learned real quick to make sure no access or coffee pot of n 30 amp. 50 is good..... That's the only thing that can happen is tripping a breaker..... Just make sure no other hogs are in the pen when on 30amps.

My DW uses a "travel" blow dryer. Uses less watts. Does take longer.

I have come to the conclusion I will reset a breaker every morning at least once while camping in the fall or early spring (and remove and reinstall a 9v battery), for the rest of my life. At least she does not use a hair dryer often when camping LOL.
Now thats Funny.....

Not so many years ago, I usually camped with my wife and 3 daughters and 2 of their friends. Having 4 teenage girls along, they learned real quick to head to the bath house to do their hair! Momma and the little one stayed put and it was my job to keep the air on and the electric flowing! I just had to manage which AC to keep running depending on which bath they were in.

X2

When I had the 2015 Rockwood Roo 30AMP, wife would blow it with hair dryer when air was on. Had to turn AC off let her use it then turn AC on.

Some hair dryers use up to 20 AMPS, read the info on yours, also remember you don't have a full 30 AMPS to you, here is a short estimate of AC AMPS.

check your amps

Remember, your rig is supplied by single phase voltage. The volts to your rig averages 117. All your circuits come together on the bus at the 50 amp point. Each circuit is protected by its own breaker/fuse.....the problem you will have is tripping the main (50 amp) A hair dryer at 1500 watts draws 13 amps. Your ac units will draw right at 15 - 20 amps. That's why you trip the breaker when both are on.

To calculate your appliance amps , divide the wattage by 117 and your answer is the amps. Remember everything that is on, adds together. So your 1500 watt dryer is 13, your ac is 20. Total is 33 amps. 30 amp plug wont hold it. You may even have your hot water heater on, if so change it to gas. Same with fridge. You could still have the same problem on a 50 amp IF ALL these hogs are on and operating.

The whole reason for going Rving is to enjoy time with each other. She can bring anything she likes. We will make it work

My Goodness! We lost Marinewife a long time ago. We are waaay over thinking her question and being no help to her. If we want to demonstrate our electrical/math skills let's start a thread for that. For Marinewife just give it a try. If a circuit trips then shut down some of the things using electricity, flip the breaker back on and try again. It will soon become clear.

I read them all and it was interesting. An electrician I am not!

I will be using my blow dryer and loving it! Thank you all.

I don't think we lost anyone.....it is just basic math.... And we all have been or will be in the same situation and needed to know why the breakers trip and how to avoid it......it really is very simple....just flipping a breaker back on is not really the answer, of you don't know why it tripped on the first place....it will just keep tripping and the user more frustrated.....
