Boarder crossing fee

Just heard this on the 6 o'clock news. The Department of Homeland Security wants Congress to authorize the study of a fee that could be collected from everyone who enters the U.S. at land crossings bordering Canada and Mexico. I can't see how this can be good for either economy!

Another way to hide a tax increase.

It will hurt the communities along the border. Canadians will stop going south the shop. If you go to a shopping center that is near the US border on a weekend there are more Canadian cars in the parking lot then USA. I have seen traffic backed up for over 2 miles trying to go across the border. Part of the problem is that Home Land Security has had there budget cut and they think that by charging a fee it will bring more money for them to spend. If Canadians stop going south to shop then many small business will most likely go into bankruptcy. I do not see how this fee till help get the country out of debt.

The Dominican Republic does this. Went there just over 2 years ago, and I think it was $10.00 cash per person for a mandatory visitor's card.

You don't understand the present administration policies.

Not something to discuss on this forum.

I seen someone suggest that whatever the fee is should be added to each litre of oil going south from Canada, tit for tat I suppose.
If nothing else these terrorist groups have reduced our freedoms.
