Boating Terminology?
Does anyone know why we use the reference "shore power"?
If we are using boating terms, another is "shake down cruise". We all (should) do it; it's that first trip in spring when you camp close to home or in an easy spot to discover what has and will go wrong with your rig over the winter.
And lastly, boaters and truckers have used the term “clacker” when refering to a diesel. Any reasons why that isnt used in this forum?
I expect there are a few boaters in this group, I have to admit I like using the references to boating. Now I'm going to go hook-up the bow of my 36'Wolf Pack to the transom of my clacker and go have some fun!

Isn't an RV sometimes referred to as a Land Yacht? There are a few shared terms like this but not too many that I can remember. I don't use Port and Starboard for instance, nor Bow and Stern (although I might say something is aft of the dinette or something like that).

Hmmm, so what can we come up with that could go with Forest and River?
Maybe a Rolling Raft.

Well, the word clacker in reference to diesel is something only applicable to 2009 and previous diesels. The new emission stds and the introduction of DEF fluid has all but eliminated the noise factor, as the detination now occurs at TDC, rather than a few degrees early.

"TOAD" Had me confused for days, to me it's a device used to help with payload, but on this forum it's a term for a car being towed behind a motor home, lol

I guess as long as the greasy side is down we are ok
Now my head hurts

Don't forget Dinghy in place of Toad. We commonly refer to our Jeep as "the Dink". We got out of boating a couple of years ago and still miss a quiet anchorage, fresh seafood, a steak on the grill, and a good bottle of re wine.

DW = Dear Wife for most. Designated Wife sounds like you have more than 1. My DH (Dear Husband) says he has trouble with the 1 he has.

By referencing "dink" I know you were a boater, we're going to start using that reference too. Sorry to hear you're done with boating, I can't stop, it's an addiction! As referenced in an earlier post, Happy Land Yachting!

So, you don't ever boondock near a stream, lake or seashore with your land yacht?
