"Borrow" your camper?

Maybe this has been discussed in the past, but I wonder how other owners feel about family or friends wanting to borrow your camper? I want to share our TT with our camping buddies, but only while I tow it and set it up. What are your thoughts?

No one will borrow my trailer. People, even family, usually are not as careful about things as with you. Would you let people borrow your whole house? While you are not there?

Just after we got the lite the oldest boy wanted to "borrow it", never thought it would take me that long to get off the floor after I stopped laughing.

Not happening here. When we purchased this motorhome, some friends had offered to rent our vehicle to help us "offset" the payment costs. My feeling is that most people don't understand the systems and can cost you more in damage (to the vehicle and your friendship) than it is worth. And, if I can't afford the payment without help, then I shouldn't be buying it.

The only people that I would ever allow to borrow our camper is our daughter and SIL. They have a camper, and know how all of the systems function, plus they are really particular, and take care of other's things like they are their own. To loan it out to someone unfamiliar with towing or campers in general is asking for trouble, IMHO.

Not to be selfish but NO. I'll tell them to call my brother who has an older pop up. If they want to camp with us; we'll talk about it.

Ditto, no chance I'd let anyone borrow my camper. My old tent on the other hand...

Questions I would ask myself are: Will they remember to attach the water pressure regulator? Will they turn on the water heater without making sure there is water in it? Will they think to bring the awning in when it's blowing a gale outside?

And 100 other things, many of them related to towing.

No one has ever asked to borrow mine, but the answer would be: You are welcome to be my guest anytime I'm using the camper, which is often.

There are places that rent campers and that's where I'll tell them to go. I could tell them to go somewhere else but it wouldn't be polite

I loaned a tent to a family member years ago. Came back dirty and covered with pine sap and he made no attempt to clean it up. Just told me it was dirty. Learned my lesson early on. Borrow my camper-----ain't goin' to happen.

I would, depending on the person, of course. I would also expect it to come back with some kind of war wound.

IMO, you take out most of the risk with letting someone borrow it with this. Though, you're taking on the "work" and most time consuming parts of camping. I offered my in-laws our camper with this exact scenario - we had plans on camping at the beach for a weekend and they were able to stay for the remainder of the week. We talked about us camping together for the weekend and then my family taking their car home and them bringing the truck + camper home. Turns out we didn't do it- but I would have been OK with it.

I think that's a great question. For me, the answer is often times YES we would. Again- I'd expect some kind of war wound at the end of it, but c'est la vie.

I would be like most. I would politely say no and either invite them to join us and use the sofa bed or point them to businesses in the area that rent them and will even haul them to the campground and set up for you and then tear down and take back home.

"Stupid is that Stupid does", I work hard for my money and take care and pride in what I have. If someone wants what I have, then they must dream, work and plan as I have done. I would never even consider this.

If anyone would ever consider doing this, I highly recommend you watch the movie RV with Robin Williams. Then make your decision!

NO, they don't have invested what you do. They wouldn't take care of it the same. A coworker asked if her and her husband could borrow our camper last year. She said that three other families (friends of hers) was going to be with them, about 12-14 people total. All of the kids were under 8 years old. I couldn't express or say NO fast enough.

Oldest son borrowed our last fifth wheel, it came back with a hole in the front where he back into it. So now the answer to anyone is NO NO and NO.

We kept our older pop-up for the kids ot use when they want to go camping. Does anyone know how to fix the "arms" that put the top? The cables broke... and now it is hard to put up but real easy to put down

There are a select few who I would trust to give my truck and 5er to and wave as they drove off. They are all folks who are fellow campers and I believe they would treat our stuff as it is their own.

Don't do it, no way, good way to lose friends and family, unless you are looking for way to do so.
