Break and enter
First off my apologies, can't seem to get the pics to sit properly.
A few weeks back our trailer was broken into, as were many others (17 in total) at the RV site during the winter months.
Not sure if it's a good idea to use the deadbolts or not. Seems some trailers escaped with no door damage, obviously they had the common key. People like me who used the deadbolt were not so lucky with door damage.
It's quite obvious that these latches only stop honest thieves.
Speaking of honest thieves, NOTHING in any of the trailers was broken, ALL the drawers and most of the cupboards were left open but none were broken and no mess at all.
In our trailer they would of had to climb over the counter to get to the back area. There was no dirt, nothing wrecked, the kitchen faucet which had to be in their way to climb over and yet it was sitting in its usual position.
Seems odd to me, what were they after, their purpose. Maybe they had a conscience Good they did though, the door should be an easy fix.
Oh here is a picture of our friends who forget to use the deadbolt
And here I was worried about mice and cracked pipes.
John

A few years back my 5er was broken into at the dealer's, when in for some repairs. My dead bolt was being used. The door was bent up but not enough to get into the 5er. They tried a window(broke it) in the slide but a wall was in the way so they went to the next window(broke it) and got in. Stole the TV, stereo receiver, bedding and memory foam topper. Ripped cupboard doors off, damaged a day night shade. They got 29 other trailers as well. That was in May of that year. Didn't get the 5er back until middle of August. Had to wait on parts. By the way, the damage went through my insurance.

That's a shame. My old boss used to park his class A in the gated parking lot at the office. We came in one morning to glass all around it, and two windows shattered and the whole thing ransacked. It's a very violating feeling, sorry you're dealing with that.

That sucks! Sorry to hear you got robbed. As you said these locks are only to keep honest people out.

Yes it is, weird though.
Honestly there is a hint that we almost feel like selling it cause of that.
See what happens when we actually get back into it in April.

Don't ever give someone else the power to take away your joy. Camping = joy.

Things I can't control I don't worry about, that's what I pay insurance for and sometimes I think they are the thief as much as the insurance companies take me for. I love to camp and I try not to worry about much. I wish I was camping now

I had it happen twice during the winter months at a seasonal site. Both times it was over $1,400 to replace the severely damaged doors (crowbar used, I believe). The one time, they destroyed a cabinet to get the TV and stereo out. Both time, the whole row of trailers were broken into. We left the campground for good after the second time.

After your second claim did your insurance company happen to tell you they would not cover you if you stayed at that site. Just wondering.
Either way even after the second break-in I would be gone too.

You were lucky, they did $10,000 damage to mine when they broke into it back in 2012. Here is a couple pics of my door, they broke the internal guts to the door in half.

I know around here, when you take it to the dealer, you sign a paper stating that they are not responsible for any theft or damage that happens while in their custody. When mine was there being fixed from the breakin, they also dropped it and broke the front landing gear off, didn't tell me about it and turned it into my insurance company without even telling me. I just happened to be driving by and seen it sitting on jack stands. So I am guessing this is why my insurance company paid.

Thieves have a special place in Hell just for them. And if I catch them, they'll have a quick entrance.
Nothing lower than a lazy worthless human that will not work but steals what YOU worked for!!! And law enforcement that you pay for has become a post-event entity, to fill out the right paperwork so you can collect insurance, which you pay for also!

To clarify, your insurance company CAN NOT tell you that. They can however, drop you from coverage because what the industry calls "frequency of claim". Just wanted to clear up what they can and can't do.
Oh, and all those commercials about good hands, or we'll be there, blah, blah, blah, its marketing, period.

You would think that the dealers' insurance would have covered the damage since it was on their lot.

Why???? Most of the time the dealer would not be responsible....... I do not understand that logic...... If they left the door unlocked yes, If they took reasonable care no............
If on a storage lot is the storage lot responsible ??
