Broken Outlet

How do I change a broken outlet? Do I buy a replacement from Amazon?

What kind of outlet? Home Depot might be faster and cheaper.

The outlets in my rig are not normal residential units. I made a couple short videos showing how I R&Rd a broken one and added one with USB ports. Also note that if you order replacements, make sure they are the exact kind you need. The one I ordered was slightly different and I had to install a box to protect the connections.

X2 if you're talking about the NEMA5 15A 125V outlets. Once you see how cheaply made they are you're going to want to replace them all. I replaced all of mine with Levitons from Home Depot.

That's a self contained device or SCD for short and are used in RVs and mobile homes and they're CSA/UL listed. Readily available on the internet and RV parts vendors/dealers.

The trick with these is "punching" the wires properly onto the stabs. There is a special tool for doing this but can be done with a flat blade screwdriver and/or needle nose pliers. Nothing wrong with these if properly installed, but the various RV factories often don't do it right because there is no QC and the only thing that matters is getting them out the door asap.

If you want to plug in a 1500 watt electric heater a lot and have a number of the SCD recepts. on the same circuit, I'd suggest installing a regular type of recept. on a dedicated circuit.

Here is the Hubbell Wirecon brochure. http://www.hubbell-wirecon.com/liter...on_catalog.pdf

Broken Outlet - Another failure, # 3

Argh!, another one broke yesterday. Went to home depot, bought a plastic box, outlet with USB, outlet cover and installed today. I probably should have just replaced the remaining originals instead of waiting... The cover/outlet hold down is a very bad design, sooner or later it will break, especially if you have kids using the outlet...

So far in our 2504s I have replaced both outlets on either side of the couch with usb charging ports built into the outlets. The bathroom outlet I replaced with an outlet with a built in night light. On all three I added a piece of 1/4 plywood as a backing plate to help strengthen the thin luan the original outlets were put into. In the lower bunk I also put in a replacement outlet with a built in night light, but I didn’t add plywood because getting there would have been too difficult. So far so good. I also put in an outlet in the pass through to plug in a battery charger for the cordless gun I use to put down the jacks. The only factory outlets left inside are the one for the tv, one in the kitchen ,and the ground fault interrupter. The outlets from HD are much better IMHO. Jay
