Can you make it from Deming, NM to Van Horn, TX on one tank of gas, and just go through the potentially dicey part near El Paso? Also, can you schedule your trip so you're traveling that stretch during the day? I haven't taken I-10 quite that far east, but I know it's perfectly fine for a lady traveling alone from Casa Grande, AZ to Deming, NM...made the trip from Yuma to Albuquerque this spring.

If you can travel anywhere from Ventura,CA,and survive, then I-10 is a piece of cake.

I had more fun at Rancier Junior HS in Killeen at age 14 than any place I've ever lived. I had a two man band but we called it Simon and Bullwinkle. I had a girl friend named Sally Moore down there who did all my homework for me. She must be about 67 by now. And yes it's very safe if u don't hit a cow in the highway or something. Watch out for those armadillos. They're everywhere!

Can't speak about Texas, but we live near I-10 in SE Arizona, and your biggest problem this time of year is probably the wind. There are dangerous stretches from Phoenix to at least the NM/Texas border, probably further into Texas. Having traveled from Tucson to Dallas, I spend as little time as possible stopped in El Paso, and my doors are locked whether I am in or out of the vehicle, even while pumping gas.
