Just finished a trip where my brother-in-law was towing a very small toy hauler (18 ft) with only 1 motorcycle inside. When he CAT weighed his numbers were under the tow specs by about 10%. His TV is a 2004 Silverado with 128,000 miles. The truck has been well cared for and all maintenance done over the years. But we now know, it was just too old and too many miles. He left Houston on a Wednesday, made it to Amarillo on Thursday. By the time he made it to Albuquerque, his transmission was shifting extremely rough. Long story, he had it checked in Albuquerque and ended up having to have a new (rebuilt) transmission installed and a week later he had to have his trailer towed by someone else back to Houston. The point of all this is that 1/2 ton pickups older than 10 years might not be a good idea even if it's a fairly light weight TT.
