Camper Leveling

I have a 2016 Model 831RLBSS with two slide outs on the drivers side. I'm relatively new to campers but my question is: do you level the camper side to side before or after you extend the slide outs?

I believe most people level before extending the slides simply because it's easier to leave the trailer hooked up to your vehicle to get blocks/levelers under the wheels.

Just level it so the side with the slides is slightly higher. It will probably sink a little once the slides are out.

It'a always a good idea to get your unit as level as possible before extending the slides.
A level RV will improve any frame flex/twist that may transmit to the slide mechanisms making them bind.

That said, some people with just two slides on the same side find they need to have the slide side of the rig just slightly higher (before extending) as the added weight/leverage of the extended slides will then bring the unit back level for camping.

We do it before so that they are torqued as they go out. Once the TT is leveled, and the four corner stabilizers are down, the sides shouldn't affect the level.

I've honestly never found that to be the case. In my experience, the slides always pull the trailer down a little bit.
Especially if you are parked in grass.

I concur. Always parked mine about a 1/4 bubble high on the side with the most or biggest slides.

I dont know what type unit you have or suspension type! I know on Rockwood/Flagstaff units with rubber ride and 2 slides on 1 side just level and deploying the Stabilizers will NOT be level! Youroo!!

What does your owners manual say. I know on all three of my former trailers that I have had stated to keep the slides in and then level. With my new Cedar Creek we level the camper with the auto leveling system. The slides must remain in since the camper is moving up and down to achieve a level trailer.


Keep the slides in this is easier on your trailer frame.

A 12 ton bottle jack works. Just had to do that about a month ago.

I think some people just level before putting the slides out and then don't re-check the level after the slides are out.

But you're different. Put some jacks in front of the axles and you won't have that problem. The jacks you so graciously gave me work great for just that phenomenon.

If you level unit & put down stab. jacks before putting slides out, shouldn't it remain fairly level? Just depends on how much sag is in the slides.

Just level then put the slides out It will be close enough to level for government work...... do not have to over think this thing.
