campground reservations
DW and I started our first KOA workamper job 2 months ago. We are working at the Memphis KOA. This park gets full capacity usually about 1-2 pm from reservations. We generally have 2-3 drive-ins and 5-6 calls everyday needing a site which we don't have and have to turn them away. Some get mad and some are understanding. Just hoping more people would try and get a reservation at any place you plan on staying at. Thanks for reading.

Good suggestion. It seems obvious, but some like to gamble on it.

reservations are nice to have with that said I have found the most relaxed traveling I have done is without making reservations so I'm not tied down to one spot. I have never gotten mad when a campground is full its great for the owners.

Thanks for sharing. Are you full every day or just something like Thursday through Sunday? When I'm fortunate to be out for a full week or more, it seems that there are openings Sunday through Wednedsay but reservations are a must Thursday through Saturday night.

I always like some flexibility on how long my driving day is. At about 11:30AM my wife and I discuss how we are feeling about additional miles, then she picks a destination and we call ahead for reservations. That works 95% of the time as we travel in the off seasons. At times we are told that there is a special event near our choice, then we look for something else out of that area.
Having spent most of my working career in retail, I understand that a certain percentage of people have unrealistic expectations. I try to be understanding, but I know that a large percentage are repeat offenders, so I don't waste a lot of time with such people.
It seems that I'm not the only one to have seen the trait............

KOA is a bit unique. They have a smartphone app that allows same day reservations til around 4 pm. We've found that the ones near big cities fill up pretty fast.

Former retail here also. I cannot tell you how many times I had a very aggressive and borderline violent customer tell me 10 minutes before closing on Christmas Eve that their child will need years of therapy because we did not have the hottest toy of the season in stock.

I always plan my stops. The last trip I didn't we ended up driving 3 hours before we found a hotel room (it was before the RV). It's amazing the things that will make people mad these days

with so many private rv parks, campgrounds, and even regional and city rv parks, it's a wonder someone would have such a terse reaction to a full 'koa' brand campground, especially since they tend to be the most expensive 'campgrounds', and probably also the most 'full', especially on weekends, holidays, and the summer months.
I think in 95,000 miles over almost 5 years we've stayed at ONE koa, and that was just recently, for a single overnight. It wasn't the simplest campground to find, or get to, though the map showed it 'just off the interstate'... it's not the best type of 'overnight' facility, as they don't particularly cater to 'pull thru' type customers, though it probably is popular for those who want to have a pool, and stay several nights.
