Which side of the Smokies are you interested in? Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg have been cut off from the southside by a landslide in the park. I personally like Happy Holiday on the south side in Cherokee, NC, but I also have sentimental attachments from when I was a kid. Going back this June. There is a good thread that mentions almost every park on the north side, do a search of Pigeon Forge or Gatlinburg.

River Plantation is one of the nicest park in the Pigeon Forge area. There is a nice KOA over in Townsend. A google search will turn up a full listing of the area campgrounds, but River Plantation is the cream of the crop.

Are you asking public or private? Public there are a slew of them, especially in North Carolina. If you want good lake side camping try Jack Rabbit on Lake Charge or try the campground over on Santeelah near Robbinsville. Davidson River near Brevard and Standing Indian near Franklin are both outstanding national forest campgrounds. Want some high altitude camping then try Balsam Mountain in the national park or Mt Pisgah along the Blue Ridge Parkway. If you really want to be in the mountains then western NC has it all.

Two Rivers Landing RV Resort was unique. We stayed there for an overnight stop. It's basically a road in an undeveloped business park with "driveways" for each park stop (see it on Google Maps).

It was different. Perfectly level sites and the nicest bathrooms/shower facilities I've ever been in. Of course, I put up my front landing gear without loosening my JT Strongarms knock offs, but I doubt that was the park's fault.

When we go to Pigeon Forge we camp at www.twinmountainrvpark.com.
We have never camped on the river sites because of some of them are not level (Front to Rear) They are ok for front /middle door RVs but not a rear door RV.

We love Cades Cove inside the national park, but there are no hookups or showers, so you have to be prepared for that.

There is also a great KOA in Cherokee. It's a little more expensive, but has lots of activities for kids and is really close to the park.

Be warned...there may be some road closures in the area.

Highway 441 to Gattlinburg is closed for an undetermined time due to a rock slide.

We are staying at Bear Cove Village in June. Seems to get pretty good reviews and is close to the things we want to visit (Dw wants to visit Dollywood)

We really liked River Plantation. The bath houses were very nice & clean.. If memory serves, their signature sites, #16, 17 & 18, have concrete pads and are across from a waterfall & have a large grassy area between the site & the river.
