Spent many a day in the UP. Mackinaw Mill Creek is an awesome campground, very large, 1 mile of lake shore and awesome views of the islands and the bridge. West of town a bit is Wilderness state park. If your in the Mackinaw area there is lots to see and do. And don't forget the Headlands dark park.

There are a few parks on the St. Ignace side, which are good. Lakeshore does have a nice view, although only stayed one night.

Sault Ste. Marie, I can't recommend Ann Osburn campground enough. Absolutely loved the place. But being a boat nerd and our site facing the river, I could sit and watch the lakers for days! There is a small day park/picnic area just to the south, and the ferry to sugar island is right there (also clydes drive in yum!). Plenty of sight seeing in town, a casino if so inclined, plus the boat cruises are great. Brimley State park is to the west, very nice, with tahquamenon falls and whitefish point in between (a must see).

Munising tourist park is nice, on the water (and highway) and right there near the Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore with the boat tours and cruises. This park fills up fast and full all summer. Marquette Tourist park is about 45min west and in the town on the river. Quiet in our experience, very nice, and a good home base for everything from Pictured Rocks to the Keweenaw. The Hilltop restaurant and bakery in L'Anse had great food and the cinnamon rolls are great. Did I say they were huge? Order one and find out.

McClain state park is west of Hancock and on Lake Superior. Ft. Wilkins state park is on the tip of the Keweenaw, both excellent places to explore the area, the copper mines, and a drive down to the Porcupine Mtns and Lake of the Clouds.

West of St. Ignace along the lake Michigan shore is Manistique and Indian lake state park. Also here is kitch-iti-kipi or the big spring. Awesome place. Can pull yourself across the small lake and see 40ft down the many springs erupting from the bottom.

If you go this way stop at the Cut River Inn, they have the best Whitefish chowder in the world! Just over the Cut river bridge near the town of Epoufette.

Darn it, now I made myself homesick for 'da UP eh!

From there we cross the Mackinac Bridge to the up and can hit up as far as Pictured Rocks and back in one day. That includes Taquanamin (selling?) Falls, Whitefish Point, LesChenno Islands, Sault St. Marie (and Locks tour boats, a lake freighter, and many other sites). Going farther, you can go to Copper Harbor (including the copper mines, and a great little opera house in Hancock area) and there is a place called the Brockway Inn in Copper Harbor that you can stay overnight or for a couple days, leaving your RV in Mackinaw and just using the car or TV. We found it almost as cheap to go that way as to haul the trailer up and camp for a couple days and come back. While you are in Copper Harbor, do take the Sunset Cruise that the people give after they come back from the island. They go out in Lake Superior and chase lake freighters which is a really good time. If you want to camp up there there are state parks and private parks, some with full hookups, but, you are really "up North" in that area. If you can go with only electric try Porcupine Mts. as well. Also, on the lower part of the UP there is Fayette State park which is a ghost town and fun to explore and has electric hookups for camping. If you go to the Michigan DNR website they have a lot of info as does the Pure Michigan website. Welcome to Michigan and enjoy your trip. You will want to come back again and again.
I have to wonder if the Mystery Spot is still there ???
Went there as a kid in about 1958 ???
