We have spent many nights in the UP. There are many full hookup campgrounds. Lots to see and do on the UP, especially Sault Ste. Marie.
If you are talking about upper MI, and not the UP, there are many nice state parks, in addition to many private full hookup campgrounds.

We stayed at Brimley State Park, it was about 20 miles from Sault Ste Marie. Very nice state park, clean facilities, and beautiful view of Lake Superior.

Aune Osborne RV park is the best. It is a city run park, very nice, very clean. Water and electric (some 50a sites) no sewer but there is a free dump station. The park sits directly on the water and you can watch the freighters going to/from the locks. Lots to see and do on the area. It is a very popular place so reservations are needed. Look them up in the 'Net and call them. We will be there three different times this summer, including over Labor Day.

If you like trees and some semblance of privacy, this isn't the campground for you. It's basically a gravel lot next to the river.

Wilderness State Park, about 15 minutes west of Mackinaw City and the Mackinaw Bridge, is on Lake Michigan and a great place to camp. Last year they added about 18 full hookup sites.

We camp in Michigan a lot and love the UP. Depending on where you are coming from may make a difference as well. Coming up from the south we stay at Mill Creek Camping (600 sites on the lake - lots of full hookup sites and lake sites) and use it as a base camp. From there we cross the Mackinac Bridge to the up and can hit up as far as Pictured Rocks and back in one day. That includes Taquanamin (selling?) Falls, Whitefish Point, LesChenno Islands, Sault St. Marie (and Locks tour boats, a lake freighter, and many other sites). Going farther, you can go to Copper Harbor (including the copper mines, and a great little opera house in Hancock area) and there is a place called the Brockway Inn in Copper Harbor that you can stay overnight or for a couple days, leaving your RV in Mackinaw and just using the car or TV. We found it almost as cheap to go that way as to haul the trailer up and camp for a couple days and come back. While you are in Copper Harbor, do take the Sunset Cruise that the people give after they come back from the island. They go out in Lake Superior and chase lake freighters which is a really good time. If you want to camp up there there are state parks and private parks, some with full hookups, but, you are really "up North" in that area. If you can go with only electric try Porcupine Mts. as well. Also, on the lower part of the UP there is Fayette State park which is a ghost town and fun to explore and has electric hookups for camping. If you go to the Michigan DNR website they have a lot of info as does the Pure Michigan website. Welcome to Michigan and enjoy your trip. You will want to come back again and again.

If you get into the Kewanaw Peninsula of the UP go to Calumet which is north of Hancock and Michigan Tech University. The Opera House and copper mines tour a good. Go north to Copper Harbor through Eagle River and Egle Harbor. Stop at the Jam Pot for some fresh baked goods and homemade jam. The Monks there are very friendly and the baked goods are so good. Great view from the top of Brockway Mtn.

We like Van Riper State Park. It is 45 minutes southwest of Marquette and a little farther to Houghton but an easy day trip to Copper Harbor. Nice beach on Lake Michigamme, the nearest town is Champion. It is pretty quiet even on the holiday weekends. Try the cinnamon rolls at the Hilltop Restaurant, or anything else they sell.

Be aware that in June and July in the UP there are a lot of Canada Geese loitering around and you have to watch where you walk if you know what I mean. Also in June and July the black flies are on the beaches and they do bite.

U.P. Mich

My wife and i spent a month on Lake Superior, Mich side. We stayed at Wander Wheel CG in Munising by the Pictured Rocks SNA and also by Taquamenon Falls.
It was awesome. We went in the Fall( late Sept/Nov) and stayed a little ways a way from the Lake. Dew feel each morning but every night we went into town and watched the sun go down watching the fishermen do their thing. Went on Pictured Rock Boat Tour, Shipwreck diving tour, Kayaking tour, Grand Island etc. Lots to see and we were on overload when we left. Were intending to head head to Mt Rushmore but heard from many folk that the campgrounds were closed due to snow.

Our FR t12ddst did an awesome job.

I grew up in Michigan and all our vacations s were camping in the UP. 2 yrs ago my husband and I pull our tt to Michigan for 2 was of camping and visiting places I remembered. Brimless State Pk is one we went to every yr. it has been completely redone and is very nice. The sites are nice and roomy but all they have is elec. we filled the water tank on the way in and emptied the tanks on the way out. Tahquamenon State Pk is nice , same kind of sites, elec only. We were there in July and the mosquitos were so bad we left a day early. If you go all the way to Copper Harbor there is Ft Wilkins State Park which is very nice. If you can do with out full hook ups, Michigan State Pks are great. No matter what, enjoy.

We always start our UP vacations with a stop at Lakeshore Park Campground in St. Ignace. Full hookups with a beautiful view of Lake Michigan. Then we go to Aune Osborn in the Soo. Normally the farthest west we go is Munising City Tourist park. They have a few full hookup with a beautiful view of Munising Bay on Lake Superior. Enjoy.
