We go Memorial Day and Labor Day. This year we are going down to State College PA 4th of July weekend. We are meeting some friends who live down there. This is the first 4th we have camped.

It depends where you camp. The SP that we camped at last year over July Fourth did have the crowds but they weren't loud or obnoxious. In fact it was a blast for our kids.

Had to make the reservations 11 months in advance, which is the reason I suspect the CG was orderly. The types of campers who cause the problems typically aren't willing to plan that far ahead.

We've got reservations there again this year, too.

I have to add that the CG we go to on Memorial Day and Labor Day is extremely well controlled.

With my work schedule holidays = an extra day off which means camping!

I'm staying close to home (15 miles or less) or Memorial Day and 4th of July but heading to the beach for Labor Day. My time off request for extra days off plus the paid holiday for Labor Day has already been approved so I should be able to avoid the traffic nightmare.
Great choice for "Living within my means" and camping for one...

we NEVER camp on holiday weekends and rarely camp in the summer. we don't even camp weekends in the off-season.

we have the ability to camp year-round, so we camp weekdays and in spring and fall. sometimes, even in the winter!

as a firefighter, my schedule allows me to go during the week. but, even in college, i arranged my classes so i could surf weekdays and avoid the weekend crowds.

We're retired. We don't even camp on weekends except if we're on a longer trip. We usually leave home on Sunday morning and arrive a the CG after the rugrats have headed home to go back to school or work.

Usually, we'll head home again on Friday, before they all hit the CGs for the next weekend. Sometimes we'll register on Thursday to stay for the weekend and then go on somewhere else on Sunday afternoon or Monday morning, after the weekenders have headed back to their weekly routine.

My DW's dad has a cottage 200 miles from us and the family gathers there for Memorial Day, Independence Day and Labor Day. Last year we took our TT and camped a few miles away and we plan to do the same this year. The traffic can be a hassle but not as bad as spending a long weekend with 15 people and 5 large dogs sharing a 3 bedroom cottage.
I say go for it.

Holidays are just another day and if they end up happening during our vacation so be it. The only thing we avoid is traveling on a first or last day of a long weekend. Noise does not bother us in the least after living on fighter aircraft bases for 20 years.

I love camping on holidays. We camped for Easter, camping Memorial Day weekend, camping the 4th of July, and camping for Christmas.

Been there, done that twice and don't want to deal with it again. Rates are higher, traffic is worse, campground was beyond crowded. If you wanted to swim, I use the term very loosely, You could stand next to someone in the water. I prefer the peace and quiet. I don't mind crowds at campgrounds, it's just the once a year campers that have a tendency not follow quiet times etc. Sitting in traffic both ways just adds to the fun. No thanks, I'll wait a week or too and enjoy myself.
