X3 Really enjoyed our stay there.
Did not find that the tugs and barges interrupted the peaceful evening nor spotlights waking us up.

Another vote for Tom Sawyer. To us, the night time barge noises and search lights are all part of what makes it interesting.

Columbus Belmont

On a bluff above the Mississippi. State park has full hookup sites plus it's full of civil war history. A museum is on site. Small park but really cool.

Thumbs up COE Park Fan

We just love the COE parks with our Senior pass! I think a neat trip would be up and down the Mississippi skipping from one park to the next.

Thanks for this post. I was just looking for campgrounds near Memphis and it sounds like Tom Sawyer is a good spot.

There is a little town of Keithsburg Illinois that is one of my favorite sites. A city run park with 50 amp and water but no waste hookup. A dump station is provided. I think it is $12 per night.

Be warned however, weekend noise can be pretty high during daylight hours from ski boats and other pleasure craft. It quiets down pretty nice at night with the occasional tow boat passing. Tow boats give a low steady rumble when passing but not extreme noise by any means.

Camping on Mississippi River?

If my plans stay (which we are notorious about changing them), I'm looking at early April; maybe the first week.

Grand Tower Ill.

In addition to my earlier post about Columbus Belmont, Grand Tower, Illinois has a nice little campground on the river. It's on Rte 3 north of Wolf Lake south of Chester, ILL. Don't know if it has full hook-ups, but we like to stop there for a picnic on our way driving from or to St. Louis. Great views.

We were there too - Thursday through Saturday!
Actual sites were too close to each other for me, but easy to get in & out of. Nice, clean bathrooms/showers & WIFI.
We were really just there to just sit & watch the boats go by and it didn't diappoint! Oh & to eat ... check out Roux 61 in Natchez for awesome Cajun food!
