With it being the 4th of July on Monday you really need to start searching for a campsite like right now. Weekends during summer months are usually very busy. I live on the West coast so I have no idea about Florida CGs.

You could try ReserveAmerica.com and see what is still open. Also check online for campgrounds in your general area like Regional Parks. It's a long shot but sometimes people end up cancelling reservations so it doesn't hurt to keep checking. I've picked up several openings when the park was originally full.

Hopefully you will find something because it will be so much for the family!

You may want to consider Brownville Park just north of Arcadia (this is a county park) if you cant find another spot on short notice (it usually has opening even on holidays). The campground is not the greatest, but does have electric sites. It borders the Peace River and is locally known for great fossil hunting in the river bottom. You can find sharks teeth, mastadon bones and such. My grand kids love looking for teeth and walking the paths in the park.

I grew up in South Florida...camping sucks in Florida! No offense...just a fact!

Go north to Fisheating Creek http://www.fisheatingcreekoutpost.co...age=campground

or north of Crystal River to Homosassa Springs. http://hswsp.com/info/camping/campgrounds.html

Salt Spring in the middle of the state near Lake George.

GOOD LUCK!

Sable Palms - I haven't camped here but took a drive through last summer. It seemed like a nice enough CG, but there were a lot of kids. I tolerate them when I hit the State Parks in the Keys, otherwise I'm semi-perm in an adult only community.

It's in Moore Haven/Palmdale area and an easy drive from Ft Myers area.

Sabal Palm RV Resort and Campground

I pass the M RV Resort every weekend and it looks nice enough. During season, it is packed but in the summer there appears to be plenty of availability.

Welcome to M RV Resort

I live in SE FL and`just adore camping in the South Central area, especially in the parks with huge live oak hammocks. We camp almost every weekend and love it!

I hope you can find something nice for the holiday weekend. We were lucky and found our "home camp" with relative ease. The owner lets us keep our TT on our site and doesn't charge storage. Everyone is like family and we have crazy fun. Good luck!

Well we've decided to go to Okeechobee KOA. expensive and I hope it's worth it. I think we'll head North to Homasassa/Crystal River next time. It's our maiden voyage for our kind of new 2008 Georgetown 350TS. And thanks for all the info, this really helps for future visits

We went to Okeechobee KOA this spring and really enjoyed it. Sites are all right on the lake. Fishing was great from the pier. Resort like pool with a great tiki bar next door. The lake level is really low right now and I imagine the bugs will be pretty bad. Have fun and let us know how it turns out.

Oh come on Mrs. Campnqueen, how can you say that? Where else can you camp year around, from beach front to lake front to in the middle of the Everglades all within a four-hour drive or less! Yes we know about Florida bugs and humidity, ah but so what, it is still a very nice place to live and camp! No offense to any other state.

Check out this link for Florida State Parks, Welcome to Florida State Parks

We will be here this weekend and I do believe they still have spot available.

Florida Campground Florida RV Campground Campground in Florida FL RV Campground

I have been here all month with our trailer. The kids and I make it down there on the weekends. They have activities ALL weekend long. This weekend they are starting on Friday with BBQ Chicken dinners, I think a treasure hunt for the kids, Saturday is going to be craft time for kids, free horseback riding, more family events, music and candy bar bingo. I have not seen the schedule yet for Sunday but I do know they will also be serving breakfast and lunch all weekend accept for Monday which I think is breakfast only.

This place THRIVES on family activities. From 3 legged races, to horseshoe tossing, relay races in the pools (2 of them) and did I mention candy bar bingo my kids have won the bingo before which yields about 20 candy bars

Fun, fun, fun, fun campground. We are taking our kayaks out there this weekend and launching from their boat ramp into the Peace River. This has to be one of the best campgrounds I have seen in regards to family events and cleanliness.

Oh I totally forgot about Okeechobee KOA. We used to tent camp there right on the lake. It was gorgeous. I was a wreck the whole time because the gators smelled my dogs and had their little snouts sticking up by the shoreline the whole weekend, LOL! I wasn't worried about them climbing the rocks to attack - it was more that my dumb dog Isis would break out and try to go down to bark at them.

Crunch.
